The Surge mostly with some ESO.  My PS4 won't accept discs anymore so I'm a bit limited.

Still playing Blood Bowl 2.

A coworker of mine told me on a smoke break that he's just getting into the Yakuza series, from the beginning, which is kind of amusing.

I dusted off ESO, but I got bored at roughly the same time as I got bored last time and dropped it again. I don't think MMOs in general, or the MMO trinity style of play, and I get along all that well.

More of the Division. Survival mode is fun. Also started Mario x Rabbids, seems like a fun strategy game for now.

Darkest Dungeon and Skyrim. Both on Switch. I don't care. Fight me. It's fun. Motion control Skyrim is fun.

Got a Void Pro wireless headset for PUBG, tax returns came in today.  Speaking of retro, while I was checking out at Best Buy (I NEED 7.1 NOW!) I glanced at the locked cage behind the counter and saw one of these bad boys chilling by its lonesome -

Thus, I will probably be replaying everything through proper hardware again, the controllers are just like I remember.  The d-pad seems a little stiff, other than that, perfect.  Will be hacking in some ROMS like Chrono Trigger and Ogre Battle to round it out, but so happy I found my late Christmas present.
Playing mostly PUBG and some Warships, played some more Megaton Rainfall for fun, it is soothing to destroy cities.
I am 2 seconds away from getting the GOG Civ6 deal before the buzzer, mainly for Owlboy and to support the cause, as I know if I get into Civ6 my life is done for a few months.
Still plugging through DOOM as well, dying to get a damned 10XX video card but still screwed on availability and I can wait for prices to cool off.
Might upgrade to a good monitor while I wait.
Anyways, we have a Steam group with the MSNBC nightly group, they are fun to play with.
That is about it.  I am finally playing games more than I read about them, that was one of my new years things.

still on Dark Souls 2, just messing with all the weapons i never really played with. currently on a dagger/poison mundane build and another mostly katana/magic combo. also tried some Icewind Dale 2 and so far it's interesting but not always in the mood for it.

I found a new case this week.  Thanks for the suggestions everyone.  I originally bought a Thermaltake, but had to return it because there wasn't enough clearance for my CPU cooler.  So I got a Cooler Master Masterbox 5 Pro RGB.  Nice case, but documentation was absolute shiat.  The front panel fan cables are also too short for my mobo, so had to order extensions.  Overall though, I like it.

A word puzzle game called Alphabear is free until Sunday so I grabbed that to check it out.

Also picked up a free game called Tactical Monsters Rumble Arena that I played a bit last night. Pretty fun so far. Though I can't figure out how to lower the volume. There's just On or Mute.

Hell, I might play some Fallout 4 since it's free until Sunday, too (not sure what happened to my version). Even though I hate the auto-leveling mobs.

My usual MMOs: LOTRO, ESO, and GW2.  I'm replaying Dragon Age: Origins as a commoner dwarf also.

How do you find all these games that are free for a period?  Is it part of Steam?

2018-02-02 12:27:11 AM
Well now that the game was officially released yesterday, I can finally talk about the game I've been helping with the Beta for a couple of months. For any old school RPG fans, Spiderweb Software's Avernum 3: Ruined World is out & it's great. $20 for 60-80 hours worth of quality entertainment can't be beat & there's a 15-20 hour demo at the link.

For those that don't know Spiderweb, it's run by a single guy (Jeff Vogel) who's been putting out these types of games all by himself since the mid 90s (25ish games over the years).  The graphics are outrageously simple but the story is so detailed that your imagination is set free & you live the story rather than watching the graphics.  If you're a RPG fan, you need to check this out.

Yes, it's part of Steam, as far as I can tell. Sometimes I see them advertised because I follow Steam on Facebook. Sometimes I just spot them on the store page.

Oh dear, Alphabear just let me use "huger" and "hoon" as words. I think hoon is an Australian thing, but "huger"? I didn't think that was a word.

I finally beat the witcher last week.  After years of trying and restarting because I got bored, I finally hammered it out.  Fun game, loved the story, but god the combat is tiring.  I know it's an old game but it was horrible.  Now playing witcher 2:AOK.  So much better of a game.(Dear baby Jesus.  Thank you for controller support).    I will finally start Witcher 3:WH once I beat this.  I heard that one is pretty good.

I have new games piling up, but I just can't quit playing Conan Exiles. I've lost so much sleep being afraid as soon a I exit the game, some one will raid me. There is nothing sadder than logging on to see the castle you spent all week on turned to rubble.

2018-02-02 07:27:02 AM
Oddly enough I've recently been working through some old games in hopes of completing and uninstalling. I've been finishing up the Dirt 3 WTs but took a break to run through Alan Wake's American Dream from start to finish. The time loop was fun and actually starting to mess with my mind a bit. Being close to Groundhog Day wasn't unnoticed :)

Getting addicted to Civ 6 again in time for the expansion.

Has anybody played Monster Hunter World? It's getting great reviews and looks fun as hell, but I hear that solo it's only okay.

Picked up Knights of the Round, Aerobiz, Blackthorne, and the NES Miracle Teaching Piano cartridge, so I'll probably be putzing around with those.

I'll also be rebuying Night in the Woods for the Switch and trying to git gud at Rocket League.

2018-02-02 09:05:45 AM
My gaming world is pretty much the same.  Marvel Puzzle Quest and building Fallout settlements.  And waiting for that goddamned EX raid pass that's never coming.

Red Dead 2 finally has a street date, which is nice.  Hopefully we get to October and it still looks fun to play, and doesn't get screwed over like GTA V did with the online "pay through the nose to have any fun" model.

2018-02-02 09:07:10 AM
Back into World of Warships for a bit.  Grinding up the Hiryu as an A/S build, my first time for that (I'm usually strike) so we'll see how that goes.  Its my first fleet carrier, and my god, that thing can barf planes, but I'm consistently out tiered by battleships and cruisers, so I go through them pretty damn fast. Still grinding with Independence also. That one doesn't seem to be as hampered when out-tiered though.  In between I'm fooling with the French cruiser line, that 9 Km torpedoes seem like they may be a lot of fun.

Any time now, Battletech, anytime.

Plan on spending most of the weekend talking myself out of picking up a PS4 for MH World. Having a hard time attempting to justify buying one for only 2 games, and I have no friends so I would be running MH solo.

Damn tempting though.

Just finished Subnautica, it's been a truly unique and amazing gaming experience and I recommend it to all. I'll say no more lest I get gushy.

Probably back to WoW, Factorio, and/or FCE until Battletech sees it's proper release, then it'll be into my cave for like a month.

Been playing Final Fantasy XIV this week with the new patch. The new trial and raid fights are a ton of fun on Normal, can't wait to see how crazy they get on Extreme / Savage. Byakku was probably one of the best trials in a while. I am always impressed that the FFXIV team can come up with new and fun fight mechanics this far into the game's life. All of the FFVI-themed fights in Sigmascape were glorious too.

Haven't been playing any "old" games recently. Finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2 last week, and started working through backlog a little bit with Mass Effect: Andromeda. My verdict on ME:A so far is that it's not a bad game, it just feels like generic store-brand Mass Effect is all. Like. Everything is there, but the flavor is just slightly off.

Last weekend, me and the missus found our old PS2. We spent most of a rainy/hungover Saturday and Sunday playing SSX Tricky, SSX 3, NFS Most Wanted and Burnout Takedown. Had a blast.

We have a PS3 and a 4, but nobody makes fun split screen games anymore.

/anybody got any tips for fun/casual PS3 split screen games?

I've been playing Civ 6.  I'm still not entirely sold on it.  Going to try another run, armed with better knowledge of how the new mechanics work.  I think it has potential. There are just a lot of problems with it right now.

I also abandoned my mage in Skyrim.  Thought about picking her back up this weekend and finishing off Thieves and Brotherhood story lines.

I also got that Paradox bundle.  I want to get into Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis.  They just look daunting as all hell and I don't know if I have the patience for them at the moment.

Elite Dangerous.

Only Elite Dangerous.

Too much Elite Dangerous.

I actually need to take a break from it lest I get burnt out. I did finally manage to get G5 Efficient Beam Lasers and a G5 Charge Enhanced Power Distributor for my Anaconda (which will both drop to G4 when the next major patch hits, but I am ready for that). I would like to get G5 Dirty Drive thrusters, but I still need to unlock several engineers before then. My medium Multi Cannons need some attention, also (currently G3 Overcharged, but I want to go to High Capacity, with one corrosive). I pulled in about fifteen to twenty million while working on the current bounty hunting CG, and cashing in the previous CG earned me about 18 million on its own.

I had a major laugh at one of the NPC pirate names last night:

I may go back to trying to complete Viewtiful Joe 2. I started that a few months ago and then dropped off because I became distracted by shiny things.

I have also made slow progress in my Breath of the Wild Master Mode run. I will end up completing it -- I am at a point now where I am sufficiently powered up that I do not die -- but I am extremely methodical in my playstyle.

I am also getting a strong urge to play Final Fantasy IX again. It is genuinely my favorite of the entire series, but I have only played through it completely twice.

Started my first truly long distance expedition yesterday, travelling and exploring my way to Colonia from Sol. Hoping I don't get tired of the experience until I'm well on my way back.  Doesn't seem to be a problem yet as I'm still charting unknown systems and loving it.

Only ~380 jumps to get there...

Picked up Warframe over the holidays. Love my space ninja to bits, and I love being able to switch my frame up to adapt to mission at hand.  I have to grind my Archwing up so I can start on the Limbo Theorem.

A wee bit behind, but playing Monster Hunter Generations on my 3DS to prepare me for Monster Hunter World in the fall. It's pretty fun, but please, can the Palico stop meow every second. I love cats, but damn, is it ever annoying.

Finished Batman Telltale series not bad I like that they threw some good twists in Batmans story.

Should finish doki doki lit club tonight

As for old stuff I started FF9 but I have serious doubts i will finish it, ive never finished a JRPG in my life despite owning some of the all time best since they were new.

I was at Toy'R'Us picking up a present for a b-day present with my son and I noticed they had a stack of several of those consoles. I have set it up for the kids, they like Mario Kart but dislike how it looks.  The questions I'm getting are leaning towards how older games were (bad graphics, no online play, etc).  I have shown them Emulators before, and we went over to a friends house for a "Nintendo NES" party, but before they were playing between themselves on a previous iteration of a game they play now, I don't think it really hit home on how things were.

I need to look up how to add ROMs, it needs:

Super Bomberman
Final Fantasy II
Super Star Wars (Plus Empire and RoTJ)
Earthworm Jim
The Lost Vikings
Pilotwings

---
I was very busy otherwise and not able to play much on Steam or Console.  Hoping to have some downtime this weekend.

i have it. I'm struggling to stay with it.

If you are a fanboy of the series, this is apparently BEST GAME EVAR!!!11Eleventy!!

If not (like me) you're going to struggle and either hate it or eventually come around to liking it. I'm leaning towards the former, but still desperately trying to like it.

Biggest complaints are that there is a huge learning cliff, clunky combat (if you arent used to this game's style of combat), a general sense of overload with all the game mechanics, and horrible multiplayer implementation. Also, dont be fooled by the title; this game is NOT open world. Its quest based and quests are timed (generously timed, according to fanboys, but you're still on a clock). It also gets knocked for being very repetitive and grindy (again, if you're a fanboy, this is expected and appreciated).

I really want to like this game because i have co-workers that are fanboys and i really want co-op play, but i'm really struggling to enjoy it and finding that i have to convince myself that i'm having fun playing it when i'm really not. YMMV.

The Magic Circle. It's a game a friend gifted me for Christmas on Steam and fave finally gotten around to playing it. It's odd. Really odd. You're stuck as a playtester in an unfinished, long-awaited sequel of a game by one of those famous developers, a parody of Lord British of Ultima fame. Long story short, you need to hack existing monsters and other entities to do your bidding as you have no other form of defense. It's fun stripping, say, "fire-breathing" from one creature and "flying" from another and putting them into a rock so you have a fire-breathing, flying rock following you around.

Good fun.

You're going to love World then. You get paired up with an annoying, high pitched chick that is your "handler", and she repeatedly says "over here!" every couple seconds if you even think about moving more than an arms length away from wherever she is. I wish I could feed her to the next thing I have to hunt.

Dick Gozinya: this game is NOT open world. Its quest based and quests are timed (generously timed, according to fanboys, but you're still on a clock).

That's disappointing. I knew about the quest thing, but I thought between quests you could just explore.

But I have to say I like the simple mechanic of "go, kill 5 of these things. Okay, now go kill this slightly bigger thing." It's all I really want to do in a game like that, anyway.

IX is my favorite ff, too. I haven't played it in years, though, because PS1 graphics are shiate on an HD tv. It's so fuzzy that I can hardly read the text.
