How cute, a promise from McConnell.  Was it a pinky swear?

If he promised me that the sky is blue and he told me this outside on a clear day I'm still not sure I would believe him

I guess Republican voters aren't the only rubes out there.

They're getting CHIP funding and now the issue is *entirely* about DACA.

Take the poor white kids out of the debate and they don't have any attractive hostages...

GOP always gets what they want.

Did you get a contract signed in blood to this effect, Dems, or are you going by his word alone?

Not to point out the obvious here, but isn't this just another stop gap measure?

If Turtle doesn't do as he says he will, won't that just mean another shutdown?

I bet somehow they don't.

A 6 year CHIP bill is going to pass the House?  And Trump is going to sign it?

I'll believe that when I see it.

If it doesn't, then the blame goes right back to the Republicans. There's no filibuster in the House that the Dems can possibly be blamed for.

There is a subset of the population that believes that if Donald Trump shot Mitch McConnell, it would have been all the Democrats fault.  There's nothing anyone can do about them.  They're hopeless.

I think Turtle will deliver and hold the vote.

Ryan won't.

Same outcome effectively.

Well crap. I had just adjusted my attitude to "idle lay-about". Now I'm gonna have to sober up and go back to work tomorrow.

Probably, unless the House goes apeshiat or Trump does something stupid.

I still have hope.

I can't wait to see the gyrations he goes through to rationalize welching on his earlier commitment.

More like they are losing the PR campaign of who gets the blame.

I cannot find a good source but did they filibuster the Friday vote that started the shutdown?

I do not remember any shut down anytime the Majority in the House caused or continued a shutdown. Ryan could set another 1st.

It's irrelevant because Republicans could only get 45 votes for it.

They'll put a bill up for vote that reinstates DACA by burning all Dreamers at the stake, and act mystified when the Democrats refuse to vote for it. "But I thought this was what you wanted?" McConnell will smirk.

Declare temporary victory, either side. Who cares? Now, wait until next time.

I hope there's a recording of McConnell saying that, that can be tossed onto a few ads if there's any kind of backtracking.

2018-01-22 01:45:24 PM
An agreement with McConnell is a sucker's bet at best, but it at least established the Democratic party as the one trying to avoid this thing in the first place.

Well, the turtle always wins the race in the story.

2018-01-22 01:45:53 PM
Am I understanding this right?

Basically this is only good until February. In which case, they have to actually agree to a longer term budget.

So, I guess Dems are trying to show they're willing to work *on* the Republicans word, and if Republicans back out next time the plan will be to say, "Hey, look, WE agreed and YOU backed out on your word"

I guess it's kinda public record now that they can point at. But still, it's a bold move Cotton.

2018-01-22 01:46:06 PM
I'm sure it will be fine, and McConnel will keep his word. The republicans are the party of upstanding morals and Christian-Judeo family values after all.

The Dems were so stupid about this. Rather than trading accusations, they should have taken a friggin' victory lap - "Yeah, the Republicans control the House and the Senate, and there's a Republican administration, and we STILL managed to shut down the government!" And kept it shut down until they got what they wanted. But the Dems don't have a vertebra among them.

That's how good 45 is at deal-making.

GOP starting shooting hostages (see: McConnell scuttling a deal to make sure the military continued to be paid during the shutdown). Politically stupid but still the right thing to do here.

I don't want yinz on my team, all you do is cry and whimper when it doesn't look like something's gonna go our way.
Just...sh*t or get off the pot, already!!

Eh, it's only a 3 week bill.
If McConnell doesn't deliver, we'll be right back here in just in time for the Superb Owl hangover to be wearing off.
Then the Democrats will take a stand on DACA and shut the government down in order to get.... a promise from McConnell to introduce the bill during another short term CR... wait.... shiat.
