So, didn't actually say that 'isn't reliable' bit, did they.

It is pretty f*cking mad that the company that powered Senna back in the day, that gave VR46 his initial victories, that has produced all kinds of neat trick motors over the years is now essentially the back marker of the big guys in F1 at the moment.

I mean, you'd kind of expect them to have designed an engine capable of winning before going back to F1... but here we are.

could probably slap a hybrid engine from a civic in there and no one would notice

I imagine Fernando Alonso, upon hearing this but if news, looked like J.K Simmons laughing at Peter Parker in SM2.

Pretty much what I imagined too, except in my mind he's still lounging on that beach chair.

On the plus side, this means there will probably be less first lap clownshoes with Kvyat.

Getting text after text from Webber extolling the virtues of WEC.

That was going to happen anyway, since Formula One is all but through with him.

/ He's crashing simulators for Ferrari now
// Probably literally, somehow
/// If anyone could do it, he could
//// He or Maldonado

Well, yeah... until you remember that "Honda" is a massive Japanese corporation, spread out over the entire world, with multiple motorsport divisions, some of which don't have much connection with Tokyo beyond, "Here's a pallet of engine blocks, and a few chassis, go nuts."

Honda F1 of the 80's was basically where they shunted bright young engineers who had a future, but no place in the corporate structure yet... think PARC with more spark plugs.  Their Indycar and Acura sports car programs are basically professional racing outfits with a Honda badge slapped on top.  Motorbikes (both Moto GP and Superbike) are factory efforts... but motorbikes are where Honda started, and that arm of the company is well run.

Honda F1 and the Super GT program are both run out of Honda's head office, by accountants and theorists rather than engineers, and it shows in the product.  There hasn't been any change of that by moving from McLaren to Torro Rosso; it's just an effort for the suits to save face, and hope that TR and a couple of kids will be less vocal than Alonso was about how incredibly terrible their engines are.

I feel really badly for Hartley and Gasly; their careers are about to take a major beating. Hartley has the sports car chops, he'll probably be alright, but this might seriously end Gasly's career.
