Cher's "farewell tour" has been going on 16 years. Just sayin'.
Don't believe the "farewell tour" hype.

If I looked it up I could come up with a dozen farewell tours that didn't take.

But 35 years. I was in a band for three and obviously we didn't have the play list they have but that shiat gets old fast.

I tell anyone that asks how to keep a band going; money is the lubrication and side-projects are the motivation.

No band that pisses away money lasts very long.  And no successful band is a complete outlet for musical passions.

Given there's only two original members left (right?), I'd say it's time.

KILLER show, pun intended, and I'll be seeing them yet again. Hopefully Anthrax opens!

I'm a Phish/Deadhead, I'm hitting up this tour to see a few living legends from my youth in person with Slayer and Anthrax. Can't wait!

As far as I'm concerned, the band ended when Hanneman died. He was their best song writer.

I liked Gary Holt as a tour replacement but the band definitely lacks something now (Lombardo leaving didn't help either).

I do enjoy Tom Araya's current gig as heavy metal Santa

Kerry doesn't want to stop.  It's obvious.  He'll form a new band and keep playing Slayer's catalogue.

In my experience, the fun factor with songs peaks once the band can execute them really well, or (if you're on your own) the first time you hear the song with a good mix.  Both of which typically happen long before anyone else hears them.   It's all downhill after that.

So many highs and so many lows to touring.  I can understand someone feeling really sick of the lows today and then missing the highs a couple years later.

I got to be front row center at a Slayer show. That will live as the best concert experience I will ever have. Unless at one point I get invited up on stage, will be the only way to top it.

RIP Jeff Hanneman

If they come to town, I might have to talk to the wife about making a "special budget allowance" for this.

Hearing Raining Blood, Angel of Death, and 5 Minutes Alone from the original artists live, one last time, might be worth missing the mortgage payment.

Unlike a lot of other acts I'll take their word for it that this is really IT.  If I'm wrong down the line feel free to quote my error and laugh.

Off topic, but watching the documentary on Rush's final tour (R40), it was surprising to see how much Peart disliked touring.

Slaughter is playing my town next month. My town is fewer than 8,000 people. My entire county is less than 70,000. I have a feeling maybe a few hundred people will be at the band shell at the city park, where they have youth soccer, a skateboard park and the like, like a Slaughter concert.

Slayer (with Anthrax and Megadeth) were my first concert. Every other concert since is compared to that.

I saw the Slayer, Lamb of God, Behemoth show last year. Behemoth was by far the best sounding, but sadly only played a 30 minute set. The whole show was awesome though and I'll definitely be there for this one, I just hope Behemoth gets some more playing time.

Years ago me and a buddy of mine got some free tickets to a show at the House of Blues. Poison, Warrant, Slaughter and Quite Riot. The audience looked like they had been hiding in a cave since 1989. SO MUCH STONEWASH.

Wasn't he in terrible wrist pain (while playing) the last few years? ISTR reading that somewhere.

If that's the case I can completely see why he would hate touring.

He said he was pretty much over the road life after their first tour back in the 70's, and just went along because that was part of the deal.   I'm sure if the band and fans would have accepted a roadgoing drummer he'd have relegated himself to writing / recording only a while back.

And yeah, he had physical issues, Lifeson has arthritis issues as well.

Michael Jackson and Prince both died as a result of pain resulting from doing a high energy show long after their bodies had worn out. Slayer has almost worn out the last original parts, and either they retire or become like Yes and tour with just the replacements.

Low energy acts, like Greatful Dead or Bob Dylan, can last until more common ailments catch up with old men.

And now to feel old, it's been almost 25 years since I bought the Decade of Agression live box set.

Seen them many times over the last 18 years. I didn't even become a metalhead until 2000.  From then on... well, it was on. Favorite time was seeing the reign in blood anniversary tour with the ... well, raining blood at the end.  God hates us all was also way better than fans gave it credit for.  the opening track of that album was the opener of multiple shows and killed (and coming out on 9/11? brutal).

Loved seeing them with lamb of god in wisconsin, but most of the times I've seen them have been at the murat in indianapolis.  and its always a good time.

Most of the legends are done.  I love the lineup, but its not what I want;  I wanted the arena tour, retirement tour with all of the big four.  Sadly mustaine can barely sing any more and has both slowed and downtuned his material.. even though I still love megadeth, the live shows have been a let down lately.  Anthrax is still good, metallica is hit or miss but no way they would swallow their pride (i.e. lower their prices) to play with the other bands cross country.

At least we have youtube and the ability to relive and watch countless live shows from when bands like them were at their angry, primal peak.
