Not content to poison their air and water, they're now poisoning their gene pool? Neat.

I have little doubt that both publicly funded and private labs all over the world have been breaking ethics rules regarding this as soon as the science emerged.

I'm totally okay with that.  I want a prehensile penis and triple density muscle grafts.  shiat ain't gonna happen with the namby-pamby rules we have.  Long as everyone is aware and consents, go for it.

For those of you who volunteered to be injected with preying mantis DNA, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that we're postponing those tests indefinitely. The good news is that we have much better test for you: Defeating an army of mantis-men! Just pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line. You'll know when the test starts.

Ethics are a matter of perspective. I am not surprised this kind of work isn't happening in the American Theocracy.

Well I think a lot of this is done to embryos, so they don't get much of a say. I mean, it's stuff like increased resistance to certain disease and such which is great, but if a nation were to start tweaking their youth for military applications I'm not sure how the rest of the world would react.

The religious have been stagnating scientific progress for all of human history, likely.  Our American nutters are just the latest bunch of Morons.

Considering the gender imbalance, they are probably trying to create Ex-Men.

We hold life to be sacred, but we also know the foundation of life consists in a stream of codes not so different from the successive frames of a watchvid. Why then cannot we cut one code short here, and start another there? Is life so fragile that it can withstand no tampering? Does the sacred brook no improvement?

Put me down for testing when this comes to the West, I've got a transcription error I wouldn't mind having fixed, it would be nice for my body to know when to stop clotting.

U.S. doctors plan to treat cancer patients using CRISPR

If it weren't for all the Jesus freaks we wouldn't be lagging behind the world on the use of CRISPR or stem cells or any of the other crap they get up in arms about.

Changes happen in cells that have been removed from the body, changes have no chance of being inherited and are of hopefully limited effect. Of course, this technique generally works by breaking the immune checkpoint pathway in a certain T-cell subset, but thankfully there is little reason to believe this could ever come back to cause problem for the patient.

While the US hasn't done as much with CRISPR, it isn't like we haven't done stuff like this before. First time was 1990 even. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/03/books/chapters/more-than-human.html

LowbrowDeluxe:  I want a prehensile penis

A prehensile tail about 4 feet long would be more useful; almost like an extra arm.

-smack noisy kids in the back seat without turning around
-carry groceries bags in both hand and still get your keys out
-backyard cook-out with a burger in one hand, plate in the other, and hold your beer with your tail
-hold a flashlight while changing a tire

While their added speed, strength, and heightened immune systems will give them a distinct advantage in battle, their hard-coded adherence to the Party and its Battle Doctrines will leave them wide open for opponents from Western cultures who lean toward Leeroy Jenkins-style maneuvers.

You know what I'd do with a prehensile tail? Two orifices at the same time man and with a prehensile tail I think I could hook that up.

So, in my mind, if you say you "altered the DNA of a person" that means you would have to have replaced the DNA in EVERY CELL in their body (to which my response is "No, you haven't"), otherwise you haven't really accomplished anything because the body is going to use the original DNA to make new cells.  Am I missing something?

Science isn't about WHY. It's about WHY NOT. Why is so much of our science dangerous? Why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you on the butt on the way out, because you are fired.

/ pro tip, there is no uninstalling the genetic changes.
// w/ a population of 2 billion, they have room to play w/ their gene pool
/// pro pro tip, you won't seeing any names from the ruling party for getting gene therapy
