(Twitter)   NFL stats: The Patriots were only called for one penalty against the Jaguars. That hasn't happened in an AFC championship game since -- the Patriots' comeback against the Ravens in 2011. Gee, seems like a pattern emerging here   ( twitter.com) divider line

Patriots are 10-4 in conference championship games. Brady has played in 10 of them. He's going his 8th SB. He's lost 3 championship games.

Before Brady the Patriots were 2-1 in conference championship games. That just blows my mind, how few opportunities the Patriots had in the 20th century. And that they actually won two of them.

The Jaguars were driving at the end of the first half and they get a delay of game penalty that wiped out a first down, followed by Bortles getting sacked. Pats go 85 yards in 1:07 for a TD, so instead of being up 17-3 or 21-3 at the half to a Pats team without Gronkowski, it's 14-10.

But sure, Panthers, whine about the penalties total for the Pats.

THIS

Refs missed some calls on the Pats (as usual), but the Jags didn't help themselves.

Not like they were flagging the Jags left and right.  You had two DPIs, one holding (declined), unnecessary roughness for killing Gronk, and three procedural penalties (false start, delay of game, illegal shift).

Maybe they're just a better team and don't commit penalties.

Not since Brady and Manning lobbied to let the visiting teams have control of their own footballs to their own specifications.  Also, the deflate-gate thing was about Brady not cooperating with the investigation.

Also, not sure if sarcastic.

2018-01-22 12:05:01 AM
The Jags eff-ed up with several really obvious penalties on long-bombs.

2018-01-22 12:06:08 AM
So is subby and the Twitter poster suggesting that Goodell and the NFL now love the Pats so much, that the refs are instructed to not call penalties against them?

The Jags should have kept the foot on the gas. Did they really expect a Pats team to just roll over and die, just like they did in last year's Super Bowl?

That's kinda funny.  You're the second person in as many days to call them the Panthers.

In other news, the poster to which I liked was correct.  We get Eagles / Patriots.

Compared to the DPI and defensive holding on that last drive that went uncalled, or was it the o-line holding in front of the refs that was being ignored.

And then there is Gronk leaning his helmet into the hit, which is illegal and should have penalized he Pats, but no, keep telling me the refs are just as unbiased against the Pats as they are the average team in the NFL.  After all, a team that only gets one penalty called on it could not possibly be breaking the rules and the refs ignoring it, right?  It is just coincidence that it keeps happening.  Nothing like this happens in other sports, like the NBA...oh wait.

But I am just a "bitter whiny Seahawks fan" and a "conspiracy theorist" to all those super classy Pats fans.

Where are you getting this shiat? That is not a rule, never has been. Gronk was a defenseless receiver.

The team you like has nothing to do with it. And you're not a conspiracy theorist because all of your explanations reference some rule that doesn't exist.

2018-01-22 12:19:43 AM
Two things stand out:

1.) not a single holding call on the pats offensive line facing the league's best pass rush rightly raises some eyebrows
2.) the refs whistling that Lewis fumble dead when they are specifically supposed to let ambiguous plays like that go and correct them via replay after.

These are difficult to ignore in light of the fact that the NFL has a decided interest in a New England super bowl appearance over a Jacksonville one. I suspect the fumble issue was a legit fark up, but man did the pats get away with a lot of holding today.

Well the PI that lead to that touchdown was questionable and Brady should have been flagged for the hit Gronk took on that drive, what else was Church supposed to do when the QB puts his WR in such a vulnerable position.

Richard Sauce: 2.) the refs whistling that Lewis fumble dead when they are specifically supposed to let ambiguous plays like that go and correct them via replay after.

How was it ambiguous? The defender stripped the ball, possessed the ball on the ground while still touching the runner. They called it a fumble and recovery by the defense.

You'd be correct if they called the runner down and then overturned it on a clear recovery by the defender who also got up without being touched.

2018-01-22 12:21:50 AM
Much as I dislike the Patriots, the Jags have shown this season they can get rattled easily after a couple big plays and start playing really undisciplined (remember the 49ers game when Garropolo tore them up and they were fighting on the sideline). They weren't doing themselves any favors with the playcalling that seemed to be "let's run out the clock" starting in the 3rd quarter. The Pats adjusted their defense at halftime and the Jags continued "1st down run with Fournette, 2nd down run with Fournette, throw into coverage on 3rd and long". Their defense would give up a play, get pissed, and start just trying to hit the Pats players instead of play smart.

damn yanks: Well the PI that lead to that touchdown was questionable

Wasn't questionable in the slightest. The ball was in the air and the defender ran the receiver out of bounds. Look at their feet. Defenders feet kept going towards the sidelines while the receiver was trying to run straight towards the end zone. If the defender didn't touch the receiver, you'd have a point.

And how many times did Brady get sacked, knocked down, or otherwise pressured? A lot, which tells me that the Patriots weren't holding enough.

I should clarify: it's strange the ref was so quick to whistle Jack down; because it does not look to me like he should have been ruled down by contact, certainly not conclusively enough that you wouldn't let the play go and check it via review.

There was a complete bullshiat PI call that handed the Patriots one of their td's on a platter (no, not the run-out-of-bounds one)

Having said that, I doubt anyone can claim that the Jaguars weren't their own worst enemy with complete inability to actually move the ball in the second half.   You had a lead, and your opponent was without one of their better recievers for half the game, and you still blew it.   Better luck next year.
