Isn't this exactly the kind of person Trump wants? White, blond hair, blue eyed Europeans that contribute to society? ICE is spinning out of control.

I feel both great again, and safe from the scourge of legal immigrant doctor criminals

He pleaded to these charges more than 25 years ago under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act that allows young first offenders to avoid a criminal record if they never offend again.
But ICE - a federal agency - does not honor that state plea agreement, something Niec did not know when he took the plea, according to family.

Can't bump up those "criminal illegal immigrants" numbers if they can't actually find criminal illegal immigrants, so instead they manufactured one from someone who isn't a criminal and isn't illegal.

Neat! That's how ICE works, folks.

Are these charges from when he was 17 the reason for the detainment? I feel like something is missing from the article.

I'm sure this all makes perfect sense if we just take the time to study it out.

The way I read it, they don't know the reason for the detainment. But just noted that the only blemish on his record was from 30 years ago. It's probably what ICE will use to justify it even if it's not the real reason.

Maybe he donated to Hillary or something.

No, that's the reason, as far as anyone can tell. ICE won't say why he was detained, and the family's indicating that those misdemeanor arrests as a teen are the only blot on an otherwise spotless record. Apparently, as far as ICE's concerned, he's a criminal immigrant that evaded federal law for decades.

2018-01-21 01:42:10 PM
Another couple of sources (here and here) for this agree, apparently. He's being held for a 25-year-old misdemeanor that was expunged from his criminal record at the state level.

That's how they operate. Back around 2006 a friend of mine was almost deported to Canada after living here for more than 15 years because of a misdemeanor when he was 18. He spent about eight months living in a gymnasium full of bunk beds and Hispanic guys in a detention center.

They were probably going through old state or local criminal records and matching them up their own database of immigrants.

That's good cause I got busted for under age drinking about 30 years ago. I was born in Melrose Park, IL and it would be weird to get deported to Germany for that.

I've always wanted to go there though so it might actually be cool.

This.

If the poor Kalamazoo doctor were not a doctor, but a professional race-baiter, anti-Semite and Islamophobe, even money says he would be considered "our guy" and ICE given strict orders to leave him in peace to do Trump's work in Michigan.

Perversely, just about the only good thing Trump's presidency may accomplish is drawing attention to the fact that shiat like this has been going on for decades.

And if you learned  German faster than the cool wore off, it wouldn't be scary. (Although "achtung" on a sign would never be something I'd never get used to.)

This is what needs to happen. For every Mexican that gets deported after being in the US most of their life they should find a European they can also deport. Maybe people will learn that their stupid immigration rules apply to everybody, not just brown people.

The fact that ICE has been so quick to jump when Trump said jump suggests that ICE has been harboring a bunch of virulent xenophobes the whole time.

I remember radio interviews with current and former ICE agents from last summer where some of them (many of them? It wasn't a scientific survey) gave the impression that Obama's policies left them feeling emasculated and that they were quite happy to do Trump's bidding.

The whole organization might need some cleaning-out once we get through this stage of the nightmare.

If you want to make an omelet, you gotta break some eggs. The chance of putting away thousands of guilty people is worth the life of one innocent. High-paying professional jobs shouldn't be going to immigrants when we have tons of qualified people here who went to undergrad, passed med school, and did residency. And why are we taking people from sh*tholes like Poland? We need more people from the Czech Republic.

Time to start outing the jackboots who are executing these raids and arrests. It's one thing for 2 scoops and his idiot brigade to issue these orders, but they are not the ones fulfilling them. Who are the agents? Where do they live? Perhaps their neighbors would like to know what Joe at the neighborhood  cookout does for a living. Maybe they wouldn't get service at the local restaurant they like. We all know "I was just following orders" hasn't been a valid excuse for a long time. These thugs need to see some consequences

This is horrible, but it could just as well have happened under Obama, Bush, or any other president since Republicans passed--and Bill Clinton signed--IIRIRA in 1996. This has been going on for a long time. It's only because we have a president who has made xenophobia a plank in his platform that we're hearing as much about it as we are now.

ICE makes the DEA look like the ACLU.  Fark them and the horses they rode in on.  Motherfarkers destroyed part of my nuclear family's life.  And the parts that weren't destroyed outright were left uninhabitable for years.
