I have reduced immunity to the flu so I already knew this. Actually I thought this was common knowledge.

/ no, coughing or sneezing are not necessary to spread it.

How can you all be so calm talking about the flu while some of us may have contracted JR Minkel in the other thread?

I think I first encountered that in Hong Kong. I asked "What's up with all the people afraid of being sick?!"
I was making joke. I thought that they had worn the masks due to pollution.
Got an incredulous look in reply and a terse "They are sick and don't want anyone else to get sick."

/their view on and respect for society always humbled me

Also, having sex with the infected may be risky. Maybe.

I saw a documentary on the Spanish flu on PBS the other night.  That was some scary shiat.  My Great Grandad caught it and fortunately survived.

They do it for all three reasons in Korea. Honestly, I think it's a great idea.

I was at the walk-in clinic once where they make you wear a mask if you have a cough. There was this one kid (about 4-5 years old) who kept taking his mask off to cough. I guess it got in the way of him hacking his little lungs out.

I've been farked by the flu for over 2 weeks now. H5n5. It's kicking my ass. Wife brought it home from Wisconsin. I'm just just getting over it and I've picked up a uti so even more joy.
Glad my mom is a dr. I started coughing up blood and chunks and sent her a pic and she went nuts, that not regular flu and had me on steroids. Fixed me up. H5nX causes SARS because it mimics acth and shuts down your immune system and you get pulmonary edema like HAPE. You need steroids ( 4 mg decadron ) or you die quick when it happens. If I'd waited the few days to see my dr I'd either be dying or in the hospital.

I know this article seems very obvious to some, but you' be amazed at how many people don't know this.  They go out when they're sick, spreading their germs every where, all the time saying, "It's okay, I'm not contagious."

Quarantine is the only thing that works on the flu. It goes through face masks, it can infect from droplets on skin. It doesn't matter if you wash your hands or never touch your face. It's as bad as the measles. If you are in the infectious zone of a person carrying it, you are getting sick unless you have a n95 respirator and bunny suit on.

Except for the times one is exposed yet not automatically infected d/t, let's say, immunity. Vectors can be vectors.

Point of my post (cough/sneeze into elbow) was in response to another's re. people not bothering to cover their mouth when coughing in public setting, and one method of reducing exposing others to a variety of "bugs" in general.
