There's a funny takeoff on this kind of scene in My Dear Secretary. Kirk Douglas asks his plain-jane secretary to lose the cheaters and let her hair down - and afterward she looks even more like a rabbit.

It is. The plot makes no sense, but IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER.
/ Only in 1940s Hollywood would they get Wm Faulkner to do a screenplay from a Raymond Chandler novel.

It's a clasic, but I wouldn't mind seing a remake closer to the book, they seriously toned it down to fit with the censorship of the time.

Whenever I tell the lady at Borders I have a flask of rye whiskey in my pocket, I get arrested.

Well sure they did, however she really sold it.  That look she gave him before he looked at her without the glasses said all that needed to be said.  It doesn't matter what language or time era, that's very universal.

I believe you mean Barnes and Noble. There is no more Borders, sad to say.

Terrible remake.  How -- HOW could you transplant Marlowe to present-day London?  However, the first of the two remakes starring Mitchum (Farewell My Lovely) was pretty good, and Mitchum was born to play the shamus.

I love her in "Written on the Wind." That shot of her at the end stroking that little model of an oil rig is awesome and kinda hot.

It was beyond horrendous, but Joan Collins was pretty hot.
I think the censorable stuff in Big Sleep was material Chandler had recycled from one of his short stories; a fake swami starts a free love cult to take compromising photos of rich dames and blackmail 'em.

She was STUNNING in that scene. With and without the glasses
