Just like Harold and Kumar II, I'm sure they caught that particular lightening in a bottle a second time all over again. Except this time, the boogaloo is personal

I guess that depends on whether or not the schnozberries taste like schnozberries.

Dudes, Super Trooper was not that good. It's a guilty pleasure, but that's the kind of movie I don't show my friends, in fear of how they'll judge me for finding that funny.

Meh.  They're showing the connections.  Typical sequel trailer.  I don't doubt I'll laugh at the mostly low brow comedy all over again, except this time with a bit of a Canadian Bacon twist apparently.

Supertroopers was the stupidest comedy I have ever seen.

It failed on so many levels, but there are few basic rule of Comedy that needs to be followed.

1)  abusing your state sanctioned authority on weaker isn't funny. Picking on harmless stoners  was mean spirited.

2) Being a dick is only funny if your target is stronger, more authoritarian than you.

3) State Troopers authority automatically trumps county/town cops.  If you can't get the basic concepts of reality right, you can't write comedy. Especially when the entire concept revolves around crooked cops.  If the protagonist were the townie cops or county cops against the State Police, it would have made more sense.

They return to their posts at the Vermont State Police Department, this time tasked with phasing out a Canadian Mountain Unit who suddenly finds their services no longer need.

Because of course, RCMP stands for Royal Canadian Mountain Police.
"The perpetrator was able to get away because he reached a meadow, and that is outside of our jurisdiction."

I really, really wanted to like it.  The "liter of cola" was funny. But... I just don't know. And I love the original... probably more for good memories associated with watching it, but this looks a bit... poorly conceived?

I am a big fan of the first one, though Beerfest is one of my favorite movies of all time and I consider it "Peak Broken Lizard"

Hmmm, what's it up against that weekend?

Tully ; Charlize Theron & Mackenzie Davis in some tweet movie
Overboard: Remake of the Kurt Russell/Goldie Hawn classic
The new "Cloverfield" movie.....
and Rampage: And everyone loves seeing The Rock

So, pretty much the only people who will go see ST2 are the ones that can't get into Rampage or go see it on purpose and stopped by the dispensary (or local dealer) beforehand.

/in that 2nd group
//now just to figure out how to sneak in a liter of cola & some maple syrup

The plot is what will make me consider this movie.  Can they successfully mix Super Troopers with Canadian Bacon?  I guess we'll find out, eh?

You forgot the magic patrol car in the opening scene.

My GOD, man. My suspension of disbelief is stoic, but yours seems to be non-existent.

Darth_Lukecash: 3) State Troopers authority automatically trumps county/town cops

No.
Not just No, but... Lol, no.  State Trooper vs Sheriffs Office vs City Police is just a jurisdictional issue not a hierarchy.  City Police have policing authority within the city limits.  Sheriffs Office has policing authority within toe county limits.  State Troopers.. well, that depends on how the state set them up.  There are two models, State Police and Highway Patrol.  The State Police model give them policing authority in all parts of the state.  The Highway Patrol model gives them policing authority only on the states highways and feeder roads.  Of course, many states seem to believe it's their duty to confuse people by mixing names up.  Such as the California Highway Patrol, which is actually a State Police model.  Texas on the other hand uses a mixed model, where the State Troopers are a highway patrol and the Rangers are a State Police.

Super Troopers actually got a few things right, chief among them the fact that State Police/Highway Patrol units are often shut down as local police agencies grow in an area.  There is simply no need for the state to pay for services that the local city can provide.

I loved the first one. But, like Anchorman, they should stay at 1. You get fantastically lucky- don't go f*cking it up by going back to that well.

The ending was tacked onto an otherwise unrelated script to make it a Cloverfield movie and sell tickets in the first place. The original movie/ending was about a nuclear war that the audience wasn't sure actually happened until the final scene. If you just replace the alien with MEW driving off to look for survivors it makes a lot more sense.

First movie was stupid, with some funny parts. This one won't be any better. Maybe I'll pick it up when it hits Redbox, and drink a few beers before/during my viewing. Shut off enough brain cells to fully "appreciate" it.
