I have a feeling this will be the last thing released with Kevin Spacey in it for a long, long time.

My dad liked this so much that he ordered the DVD from PBS right after it aired.

I saw it. He was right to do so.

It's a great concert, I don't need it on vinyl though..

Huh?

My dad gave me the DVD boxed set for my birthday. I normally hate tribute concerts, but this one is farking beautiful. I still get choked up when they do "Something," with McCartney starting the song off with ukulele and then the full band coming in later. it's just so brilliant.

I don't knwo enough about this show - was it recorded to analog or digital during the concert? IS this "Vinyl" re-issues like the majority of current Vinyl releases: pretty much just as good as a CD transfer or simply from a Digital master, etc....

I was happy when CD's were invented so I didn't have to deal with vinyl anymore.

I'm looking forward to the hipsters moving on to CDs.

I miss Sam Goody

/having said that, I really like George Harrison but you get the impression the other Beatles got to the point where they said 'Ugh, we GET it, George!  You really liked India!  We GET it!!!"

I'd guess digital, the video was shot in HD and the audio for a 5.1 recording.

No shiat...

"Hey guys...check this out...the sound quality is better, and I can *still* scan these to a higher-resolution MP3 that will work on all my portable devices! Look what I discovered!"

I keep thinking "hipsters and dumb kids have already started to make cassette tapes cool again! Only a matter of time until my CD collection is finally retro-cool!"

/Currently packing up to move and have already packed the CDs
//Partly because I won't be using them until after I've moved

It doesn't really matter.

Even it was recorded in analog it still would have been transferred to digital for editing and mastering. Now if you're going to say that analog recordings are superior to digital, that's just not true.

Despite what vinylphile claim, CD is a superior format. Vinyl has a smaller dynamic range, the bass has to be mixed into mono so the needle won't jump out of the groove, and more. Some people prefer the sound to CD, but that sound is compromised - the CD is closer to what you would have heard in concert.

I happened to catch the last half of the concert when it originally aired on PBS, and I'm so glad I did.
I need to buy the whole thing on DVD one of these days.

I had the original DVD set, I think I still do.  It's a great concert and it makes me want to dig George up and roundhouse-kick his nappy bloody face off for leaving so soon.

False - Vinyl releases have been made for decades before there was even a digital component. In the modern idiom - yeah; there is always a pre-master stage that is in the digital realm, sure.

$125 for four disc vinyl set

$20 for two CD set.

The only thing on the vinyl that's missing from the CDs is two Monty Python songs.  All the "good stuff" is the same on both.

It's going to be interesting when the bottom falls out of the vinyl market.

Obviously I wasn't talking about what happened before there was digital technology.

Nobody who is still recording in analog is mastering and especially editing in analog (except some indie bands that think the novelty of splicing tape together will help boost their sales).

And with reissues, we're at the point that the analog tapes from the early stereo era are beginning to deteriorate if they haven't been properly cared for over the years - there's no choice but to transfer to digital and use that digital transfer for posterity.

Never underestimate the power of nostalgia and what people are willing to pay if they believe they're receiving a premium commodity.

My favorite Beatle. I don't think he ever wrote a bad song. Well, he probably did, but I never heard it.

Have the dvd of the concert.

So many fantastic talented people on stage.
Clapton doing "While my guitar gently weeps" is the best version of that song ever.

"... Olivia said that with Dhani on stage, it looks like George stayed young and we all got old."

Too bad Jesse Ed Davis wasn't alive to play on it

He died more than a decade before Harrison.

didn;t Paul say that?

anyway "All Things Must Pass"  is waaay overrated, imho

Beatles  >>>> Ringo solo >> Paul solo >> George solo >> John solo

My favorite part of the whole show.....when Paul is performing For You Blue with Ringo on drums...they get to the part where, in the original Beatles recording, George sings/says, "that's the 12 bar blues,"....and Paul and Ringo look at each other and sing those words and smile. Sweet moment of shared memories.

I guess neither of them could play at the tribute then could they.

George>John>Paul. Not sure about Ringo, I haven't listened to him enough.
Travelling Wilburys alone puts George at #1

I would even put George at #1 based off of All Things Must Pass. Brainwashed is also excellent.
