for someone who often claims to be the best negotiator in the history of ever, trump sure does fail to grasp the basics of politics.  things like 'not pissing off the people you need to make a deal with' are generally considered 'basic level' politics 101 kind stuff.

The full WaPo article says this "undoing of the deal" was Stephen Miller's and John Kelly's handiwork, which is not surprising. Also that Cotton and Perdue heard "shiathouse" not "shiathole" and therefore could deny the "shiathole" word. I can't even...

How does trump intend to avoid a full government shut down now that he's tanked even the thought of a discussion on a deal AND doubled down on the racism to boot....?

trump still seems to think he's dealing from a position of strength.  I don't think he's realized yet how precarious his position really is these days.

I actually find this tidbit from the article more interesting:
At one point, Graham told Trump he should use different language to discuss immigration, people briefed on the meeting said.

Next week's Tom Sawyer: I mean Trump is certainly a racist and has done nothing to hide it.

But telling the CBC to go fark themselves isn't, itself, racist.

Unless he called them a bunch of attractive and successful African-Americans, in which case...it is racist.

So n/a/g/g/e/r/s now gets auto switched to "attractive and successful African-Americans. That's hilarious.

Trump's idea of "negotiation" is dealing with contractors he's stiffing, ex-employees he's firing or threatening, and local governments he's buffaloing.

His idea of "negotiation" is based on dazzling them with bullshiat up front, then intimidation and legal threats afterward. . .and that doesn't exactly fly with Congress or foreign governments.

Turns out it's a lot harder to "negotiate" with a hostile Congress or foreign countries than it is with a local government who you've dazzled into letting you build a casino, or with some contractors you're refusing to pay, or a disgruntled ex employee who wants to violate the NDA you made him sign. . .

. . .who knew Presidenting could be so hard?

Trump's "negotiating" is bullying people who need to be in a deal with him due to a power differential l.e. Contractors, small businesses, etc. Trump has trouble dealing with others as equals or doing give and take.

IIRC, any fixed-wing aircraft used to carry the President is given the designation "Air Force One".

Helicopters are designated "Marine One" under the same circumstances.

If you wanted to go totally glass half full with him, you could try to make the argument that it's not minorities he hates, but anyone who's not able to immediately increase his money or fame.  Let's not pretend he's respectful to white people either.

I'm not sure that's an argument to suggest he's a better person though.  "He's the worst person on Earth" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

The whole point of the highly technical "is he racist" argument is to deflect attention from his blatantly obvious horribleness as a human being and worthlessness as a President.

Huh, I always kinda wondered if Army One was a tank or armoured transport, but according to Wiki, it was the helicopter used by the Army until 1976 when the Marines took over sole responsibility for that.  (They split responsibility before that)

Army One per Wiki

Air Force One is a call sign or designation, it is not the name of a plane. Technically any aircraft carrying the President will hold the designation/call sign "[branch of military operating aircraft] One".

In the movie Air Force One, when Harrison Ford makes it to the other plane, the pilot changes the designation to Air Force One to indicate this. As far-fetched as the stunt was, that part is actually what would have happened.

Also, the Vice Presidential designation is [branch of service] Two. If Pence uses one of the Presidential planes to travel overseas, it will hold the designation Air Force Two.
