What's more worrisome is how every snowfall in Washington has been followed by a rain, so the snowpack isn't accumulating like it did last year.

We still have a couple months left of winter, but if things keep up, I get the feeling we're looking at droughts this summer.

I'm afraid the same thing might happen to the 405 in the Sepulveda Pass where the Skirball fire happened. If that hillside goes during rush hour, there would be hundreds if not thousands of cars in the way and traffic in LA will be completely farked.

That would depend on which of the hills were to slide. Only part of the freeway is up against the hillside there. As you get farther south, where it's elevated, any mudslide would end up on Sepulveda Blvd. where it crosses under to the east.

So far this winter, my part of Indiana went below -10 F five times.  One day, it got up to -4 F.   During our El Nino years, tornado season starts in February...our tornadoes like hitting after midnight.

We also have the New Madrid fault to worry about.

Tomorrow, parts of Los Angeles are expected to reach 80.

Yeah, climate change, I know... harder to complain at the time of year when it works in your favor.

Because all the natural disasters combine do less damage to the economy than if they were ran by Republicans.

I miss Solvang.  Years ago they did an annual bike ride of 50 or 100 miles, started and ended in Solvang, in Oct/Nov.  Went 8-9 years in a row until I lost my knee and couldn't climb hills any more.

It got to be a trip I looked forward to every year.

"Until further notice" would be useless, though, if you think about it. You may as well say, "It's closed until it isn't anymore."

"Indefinitely" at least communicates that they're still in the process of assessing damage and coming up with a plan to fix things. I suppose if you wanted to impose a four letter max word length, you could say, "We don't know how long it will take to fix yet."

stuffy: Why do people live in California again.

California is much more that Los Angeles and San Francisco.  You have those major urban centers that dominate politics but the state is absolute huge with a variety of climates and lifestyles.  You have the deserts in the south, the Central Valley that grows much of America's produce, you have the Sierra Nevada's in the east, you have the mountains and forests in the north, and the high deserts of the north east.  Virtually any climate is present in the state and people forget just how big the state actually is with both the continental US highest and lowest points.  I am 800 miles away from the other end of the state.  Despite the politics and requirements they impose, there is significant employment outside of the tech industry to scratch out a living even if the costs of living can be high depending on the part of the state.
