"Unfortunately, we reached an impasse today regarding how to treat the press in the future," Michael Rosenberg wrote. "(Harding's) adamant and final position is that reporters must sign an affidavit stating that they won't ask her anything 'about the past' or they will be fined $25,000.

There is nothing worth asking Tonya Harding that isn't about the past.

Anybody seen I, Tonya? It seemed like a dumb idea (and Margot Robbie is waaaaayy too hot to play Tonya) but it's getting good buzz....

My wife has a DVD of it-- she's a member of SAG, so every year she gets a bunch of "for your consideration" videos of SAG-Award-nominated videos, including movies still in the theater. So far the only one we've watched this time around is Get Out, which we had missed when it was in the theaters.

I really enjoyed the movie and highly recommend watching it. I may be a little biased, but I have an excuse. I wrote the following on FB just before watching the movie:

"As I sit here waiting for this film to start, I am flooded with a ton of memories about Tanya.
During the time of the movie, I was living in Portland. I was intrigued by the local press of her and the way she was portrayed as an underdog. I quickly joined team Tanya and began following the sport. I took the bus to Clackamas Town Center and watched her skate/practice a few times.

During the Winter Olympics of 1994, there was no way to watch anything live. It was all tape delayed for our convenience. You could listen to her skate live on the radio, but I was working at the time of her routine. My stereo allowed me to set a timer to record the radio and I did just that. I rushed home after work and listened in agony of her troubles that day. I cried later that night as I watched it on TV.

As the years passed I always felt bad for her and how things turned out. The sex tape and the constant negativity thrown her way was heartbreaking to me. We may never know the whole truth, but I hope she gets a renewed sense of self worth with this movie."

Well, when you arrange to have your opponent assaulted, "negativity thrown her way" does tend to happen.  Mind-boggling that anyone would defend her, then or now.  Might go see the movie, if only for Margot Robbie.

It was never proven that she had anything to do with it. We can all assume one way or the other but it doesn't change the fact she was not directly responsible for what happened. Was she indirectly responsible? We may never know the whole truth, but I am willing to giver her the benefit of the doubt.

Tonya Harding admits she had prior knowledge of attack on Nancy Kerrigan. There. We all assumed that was AT LEAST the case, and now she's admitted it.

"In fact, she said she basically figured out that her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and his friend, Shawn Eckardt, had likely been behind the plot to attack Kerrigan shortly after she won the U.S. figure skating title."

"Harding stuck to her story that she's repeated for 24 years now: She had no role in planning the attack."

She admitted to figuring out her knucklehead ex husband and his even bigger knucklehead friend were behind the attack. That is not the same as being involved in the planning or execution of the attack.

What a crappy agent. All he had to say was he was resigning. He really didn't have to explain why and make his client look bad in the process.

Just watched it. Quite good. Held my attention the whole time. Good acting, good casting. I'm not sure what kind of Great Lakes accent Margot Robbie was trying to give a young woman from the Northwest, but everything else was good.

So far we've just watched Get Out and I, Tonya. Both are very good, though I don't think they're quite Best Picture material. We also have The Shape of Water, The Big Sick, Lady Bird, Darkest Hour, Call Me By Your Name, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. We'll probably watch a few more over the next week or so.

Just watched The Shape of Water. That's the best of the bunch so far. It's a ridiculous movie that has no business being any good, yet it is. A pastiche of fantasy, spy movie, sci-fi and period piece; hints of ET, Splash, Beauty and the Beast, and of course Creature from the Black Lagoon. Definitely Best Picture material.

I liked Get Out a lot -- it's entertaining and it makes you think hard about it afterwards, which is a quality I love in a movie -- but a lot of that thinking makes me think about the plot holes. You could say it's not a horror movie without gaping plot holes, and that's one of the tropes it explores. Fair enough. But still. SPOLIERS:if a photo flash brings the people back, why lure in a photographer of all people? In that sense, the hypnosis, as cool as it is to watch, is something of a red herring (you could just give them all the treatment of the guy in the opening scene, who, I didn't realize when watching, was the guy who shows up at the party and cries out the title of the movie). People get exposed to flashes and don't always have the handy hypnotist around; what happens then? And why invite a past customer back to the auction, with the potential for giving up the secrete completely? And the big reveal comes by way of awkward exposition, not really a good look. /END SPOILERS. But I still liked it a lot. I like the message: no matter how much virtue-signaling they do, they simultaneously want to control you and to appropriate you. Food for thought. The acting is great, there's good humor and Jordan Peele has a great eye for framing and blocking.

Sorry if that's incoherent. I've had a few.
