It's going to be like "Friday the 13th: The Series." That vet's office in the first movie into which he broke to get fixed up and steal his current dog? Yeah. He was finally confronted by the vet, who, in return for sheltering John from the hordes of assassins trying to cash out that open contract and providing John with arms & resources, requires John to track down the owners of all those other animals that were abandoned or refused to pay their vet bills.

Give him a hutch of bunnies that haven't been fixed. Problem solved.

The potential TV series is set in the John Wick universe and focuses on the inner workings of the exclusive Continental Hotel, which serves as a refuge for assassins.

That's not an entirely bad idea.

John Wick and Jack Reacher seemed like good one offs to me. I enjoyed both, but haven't been bothered to watch either sequel.

A number of different assassins, but center the show around the dude from Fringe that runs the desk. I would watch the shiat out of that.

Sounds like the basis for Short Overlapping Arcs: The Series.

I actually preferred the first film's restraint in explaining itself.  Gives lots of elements a sense of intrigue, from the gold coins to the hotel itself, but that's my subjective take on it.  Economically and politically, the Continental makes no sense.  That's not a big deal when its inner workings are a black box, but answering one question of a nonsensical premise only results in opening up ten more cans of worms.

I don't see it working for a real long time -- the TV showrunners should learn from the movies.  I'm thinking, how many daughters and ex-wives did Liam Neeson have before the plug was pulled on that series of films?

1. Best assassin in the world.
2. Beat him half to death
3. Steal his car and kill his dog.
Should have been a country song.

John Wick: The Series (ABC)

This idea would work if:
1) The series was broadcast on either Netflix or some other pay outlet
2) The series started before the events of the first John Wick movie

Doing so would otherwise be an absolute crap product that does not properly flesh out characters or result in telling a good story.  Network television is not capable of producing the kind of story needed for a John Wick universe story.

It's on Starz. There's at least some potential there.

Starz isn't afraid of being gory or bloody. Ash vs. Evil Dead is oozing with blood, shiat, and violence.

I just watched "Swedish Dicks" and Keanu is in it playing a kind of "over the top" hit man in it. Yeah, major plot point spoiled. But they also worked in a Matrix visual gag into it too. Not a bad series as it had Peter Stormare as one of the leads.

(no, it's about two Swedish detectives in L.A. but they make that joke a subplot in one episodes. Worth tracking down but be warned, the dialog is like 70/30 English to Swedish, so hope you like subtitles.)

I feel the same way.  John Wick was a perfect movie in that there was no wasted time.  Much like a good horror movie, what they didn't show was more important than what they did.
-The entire love story lasted all of about 2 minutes, but it was enough for you to fill in the blanks about how much he loved his wife.
-They don't need to have flashbacks to what he did in the past, because the way current characters reference what happened are enough.
-Watching JW kill for money would be like watching a janitor at his job emptying waste bins, who cares.  Watching him kill because a Russian shiatbag kicked his dog is cathartic.

John Wick: Chapter 2 is actually pretty damn good, almost equal to the original, and does some awesome world-building and setup.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back was a disappointment, and I'm being generous.  There is no reason that cast with that director should have produced something so unfortunate, but they did.

I've been hunting for something to follow up Spartacus (highly stylized, tightly written and excessively violent) and this might just be the ticket. They built an interesting world in the first movie and did an alright job of expanding it in the second (though I think they stretched it a bit too far with how many assassins there turned out to be- like how the prequel star wars cheapened the Jedi by having hundreds of them).

I wish it had Stephen DeKnight running the show, but I'll give it a shot at least. They aught to cast Alex Winter as the protagonist of the show though.

Entertaining scene, but it annoys the hell out of me that people will see it and think that  suppresors actually work like that.

Sounds awesome, since seeing more of the Continental was really what sold John Wick 2 for me. But I'm not sure there's a whole series in that.

Ever see that ADT Security commercial where the house is covered in Matrix like digital code after arming the alarm system?  There are actually people out there that believe that literally happens after setting the alarm. Some people will believe anything they see, no matter what.

/I seriously had an elderly woman ask me about that happening to her house.
//I had to ask her if that was a real question.

Jack Reacher is actually based on a novel series that is at 22 books and counting, so it's far from a one-off. I do not think the movies have been particularly good, though. Maybe a new director and new lead would improve them.

I've come around on this.  I think it will work in the same universe as long as they film it with mostly different characters in a different style (similar to the Better Call Saul spinoff of Breaking Bad).  My suggestion would be something in the same vein as Burn Notice.

Are they talking regular TV? No farking thanks. You would have to water down the action to the point it was unrecognizable as in any way related to the original.  Unless it's on premium cable or a steaming service it's a horrible idea.

The tied and lukewarm stupidity that is the Lethal Weapon TV series is a perfect example of what happens when you take great, but R-rated, content and dumb it down to get it past Network censors.

Sounds more like it may be as connected as the first season of Agents of SHIELD was to Winter Soldier.

If so - I'm in.
