Who told you that? Wikipedia and most of that community have always been very upfront that Wikipedia will never be finished and will always require continuous maintainance.

Those are just alternative facts, Smitty, not "fake" facts. Facts are subjective, unlike the Lord's Grace. Only RealFacts can be trusted. Alternative Facts are just facts that have been challenged by Fake America. There are no Fake Facts, just Fake Media, and Fake Americans. Sheesh. How many times do we have to explain this?

So, since it's in the fail, I now wonder if Russian trolls or Wikipedia is real. Which then leads to this troubling question: if the Daily fail reports on fake news does it make that news real?

That was the reason Congress passed sanctions against Russia. Well, the oligarchs and Putin.
As to war ...

According to notes of Krutskikh's speech, he told his Russian audience: "You think we are living in 2016. No, we are living in 1948. And do you know why? Because in 1949, the Soviet Union had its first atomic bomb test. And if until that moment, the Soviet Union was trying to reach agreement with [President Harry] Truman to ban nuclear weapons, and the Americans were not taking us seriously, in 1949 everything changed and they started talking to us on an equal footing."

Krutskikh continued, "I'm warning you: We are at the verge of having 'something' in the information arena, which will allow us to talk to the Americans as equals."

Yes, I've been suspecting they have a comprehensive plan to wipe out the US' even all of the Western World's IT Infrastructure. Hell, we've been handing administration of some of our critical infrastructure to India, which is a Founding Member of the BRICS

WannaCry and the slew of Russian, Chinese and Best Korean based attacks the last few years have all seemed more like test runs than ends to themselves

And do you think the shiatheads in charge in DC would have the faintest clue how to react, much less actually defend against this? Not a chance, hell, they'd probably welcome it with open arms so long as Putin offered them hefty slices of the pie, such is the extent of their treasonous bent

I vote routing all Russian IPs to a Truman Show-like fake internet so they can have their little fantasy world to play in to their heart's content.

A story about Russian trolls planting fake news in Wikipedia? Without any specific examples of Russian trolls changing articles (even if the changes are quickly reverted)?

This sounds like scaremongering self-serving fake news from DailyMail which Wikipedia classifies as a fake news site.

This news sticks in the possibly made up quote
> Last night a source close to the inquiry said: 'It seems not enough checks are being done by Wikipedia to make sure the content on there is not fake.'

The facts of the inquiry seem to be
> Representatives from Google, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter will be quizzed at the British Embassy on what they are doing to combat fake news.

with no official concern over Wikipedia.

2018-01-13 12:51:46 PM
So what are we supposed to link to in giant blue walls of text if Wikipedia is no longer a valid source? This means we actually have to research the backup for the arguments we put forth instead of just regurgitating Wiki articles...This could kill the Politics tab as we know it!

The Fark collective piled on me for saying we need to keep books around. Apparently public consensus is that I was wrong and nothing beats the internet for research. I'm assuming they read about how reliable internet sources are from a Wikipedia article.

This isn't a complete blast of Wikipedia, as it has some minimal use, but really, why do some dumb arses try to use wikipedia as an "authoritative" source?  Don't get me wrong, it is a decent 30 second read to get an idea on a subject, and a good place to get citations, but certainly not something that shows you have command of a subject.  Let the Russians have the damned thing...

The people who use it as "definitive fact" are the people that didn't make it to HS and get told that you cannot use it as a reference because of the nature of the sources. The only thing it is good for is as a collection of links to original source material, but most people don't make it to the bottom of a page.

I miss the days when they were effective.

Although if you follow their Twitter (they have multiple), they seem to have pivoted back to US issues and not being a fan of trumpee (leading up to the election they were multi-personality and each day would be a crapshoot on who they'd attack).
