Hey good idea. Leave him completely defenseless so he can be killed by other bulls when the rut starts


Rut's over... Has been for months.

Even if it weren't, the now antlerless elk would de-ass the area pretty quickly once another male showed up.

Elk grow new antlers every year, or did you not know that?  This guy was probably a month from losing those anyway.

If I understand natural selection correctly, and I'm pretty sure I don't, the elk will do the very same thing the next year hoping some game warden will come along and free him.  In the meantime he's sired several more little elks just as stupid as he is.

Seems like a good plan.  Elk shed antlers every year, I believe, so what he has left will fall out, new ones will grow for next winter.
