The real question is why was a Refuse Control employee wearing a county-issued bullet-proof vest when stopping at the home of a female acquaintance?  Is this common in South Carolina?

Come on, who doesn't put on a county issued bullet-proof vest when going to visit female acquaintance.

obviously there is more to the story than what the article says. My theory: coroner guy was in a relationship with the woman, found out she was cheating on him, called her to say he's coming to confront her. She informed her lover who came prepared knowing the guy has a police issued gun.

Wouldn't you shoot a man who cuts people open all day and then stores the remains in his freezer for later use?

Um, how do we know how he died? If only there was some guy with a job who could tell us for sure.

"Brown pulled his gun but never fired it, Lott said. Instead, one of Bradley's shots struck Brown's gun and injured Brown's finger."

I really want to see a follow up after both victims give their story. Very lucky to live after being disarmed and shot. Were they far away from each other and he managed to run or hide? Did the woman run like hell and get far away or pull a horror movie move and hide in the house? It sounds like they made the right decisions to survive a crazy person like that. I know a random murder isn't normally news but this could be murder mystery show quality stuff.

According to this, the deputy coroner was romantically involved with the woman.
