Anyone can be nominated. It's the winning that's hard.

Just change your name to "Meryl Streep" or "John Cazale".

Well, he's up for a BAFTA for this role, which arguably has a higher bar than the Oscars.

I mistakenly believed that you posting a still from My Cousin Vinny in a thread casting doubt on the veracity of a possible Oscar nomination was a "See, she didn't deserve it, either" dig, so I posted a rebuttal article. My bad. ;^(
I guess my label was confusing. The TL;DR version, Yes, her win was legit.

ncsb - Driving home yesterday, commercial comes on the radio "Everyone's favorite bear is coming back...". I'm thinking why would they make a Ted 3?

Paddington? GTFO out of here with that.

Nope. It's only seriously come up as a possibility twice that I can recall - Ellen Degeneres for Finding Nemo and Scarlett Johansson for Her.

There was some talk of Andy Serkis for ROTK (voice + motion capture).

Two "Paddington 2 is such an awesome movie" links?  I guess we know who one of the financial backers of the movie is.  I'm still not going to see it.

Hugh Grant is an awful actor.  His whole shtick was "delightful" English waffling when he got worked up.  He's old now and should give up.  At least he saw Elizabeth Hurley (and Divine Brown) nekkid.

Does Paddington show his junk?  Snort honey off a dead hooker?  Lead a passive resistance against the Nazis?

Speaking of which, am I the only one who thinks it's bad timing for one or both studios that Paddington and Peter Rabbit are coming out at the same time, with almost identical visual styles?

Peter Rabbit isn't out for another 3 weeks in the US.

Actually seems like a good strategy to release kids' movies in Jan and Feb when a lot of the country is cold and parents need to find indoor activities for the rugrats.

Honestly, both Paddington films are genuinely really great.films. Sure, they're "all ages", but done with a style and wit and verve that few others ever have the ambition to go for. And they don't talk down to the kids watching. Grant is excellent in P2- he's clearly having a whale of a time - and so is Brendan Gleeson. Comedy is hard, and it isn't recognised nearly enough

Paddington movies shine best when being unrepentantly warm and earnest; Grant's gleeful thespian is a much better fit than Kidman's dark, tortured, sadistic taxidermist, making Grant the far superior (and vastly more entertaining) Paddington villain.

Furry protagonists aside, the movies are very different.   I'm sure there are many parents that would be happy to take their kids to see Paddington but not to the more violent Peter Rabbit.

His performance inside Divine Brown might have been Oscar worthy, I imagine any performance in a Paddington Bear movie to be utter shiat.

Yeah, if I knew it had thesbians in it, I wouldn't have taken my son to see it. He's not old enough for hardcore thesbian flicks yet.
