(Bloomberg)   Brits rank sports from most boring to most exciting, consider NFL football a snoozer on par with cricket and golf. Give them a good tennis match or track-and-field meet, though, and they go berserk   ( bloomberg.com) divider line

Get rid of Goodell and the billionaire owners, and the pads = rugby (real football).

20 minutes of action mixed in with two and a half hours of commercials.  What's not to like?

Combine football and golf. If you hit a 270 yard drive, the other golfers can try to tackle you as you walk up for your next shot. If they stop you, second shot is from there. Give him four downs to get there, and he gets to use the club he hit the shot with.

LOL, I love watching cricket, snooker and golf if there's no commercials and you can just zone out. Commercials ruin all 3 though. I mean a full day of cricket is 90 overs, plus lunch and tea. That can be hours of commercials, usually the same 2 Indian matchmaking and money transferring ones.

maybe I should move to the UK.

Watching Indian cricket from an Indian stream is enough to drive you to distraction. They throw little commercials in between individual balls sometimes. Half are in English, half in Hindi. I don't know how they tolerate it.

ESPN streams Australia and New Zealand cricket sometimes. That's actually pretty pleasant to watch. Not too many ads.

What did you expect from a place where people grow up pretty much playing only one sport institutionally and go on to treat it like a religion?

You could make golf exciting.  You'd have to play it on a minefield with a live hand grenade, but it can be done.

No. They're not. And I'm a Brit.  Both dull, both boring, and there is no need for slightly different rules that no one need understand. Cricket and horse racing need to be banned. Rest of list is a bit meh. Worried curling and lacrosse don't get a look-in

Dead for Tax Reasons: i think darts is fun to watch, but probably only because i like to play it

I've seen a darts tournament on tv. I think ESPN. I don't recall where it was but is was in like a small stadium and there were like 10,000 people there watching live. I found that very weird.

This, plus considering there is only a 20 point spread between soccer and football, with the absolute market saturation soccer has, the NFL is doing quite well.

Combine it with skeet shooting, if he can get the ball in the hole before it gets shot he wins.

Dart catching would be more fun, especially the blindfolded round.

You mean as weird as people paying to watch other people play video games?

I can tell people this: I love watching EVO on ESPN especially when they are smart and use commentators that know the given game inside-out. I also like watching professional darts competitions for the atmosphere and ambience, but it's hard to really grok what is going on unless I read some wikis and watch some explainer videos beforehand.

I think every sports broadcast has to balance how to explain mechanics to newbies while not sounding too "Captain Obvious" for people who have been watching for years/decades and generally understand the ins and outs.

Honestly I think baseball broadcasts can benefit the most from this because baseball is a hard sport to understand because some of the nuances of the game don't translate to TV well (like reading the spin of a pitch and why batters react a certain way).

Well they don't take their spotted dick and shove it in your face in your national stadium, so maybe you shouldn't shove your footballs in their face either.

Cewley: Get rid of Goodell and the billionaire owners, and the pads = rugby (real football).

Get rid of the scrums that serve no offensive purpose and get stopped when the ref doesn't like it = even better rugby.

Polls like these are bullshiat. You give me 20 sports to rank as either interesting or boring an I'll rank the ones I understand and like as interesting and the others as dull. If you don't like cricket (and it didn't specify test cricket - T20 is entertaining), which is a high percentage of the population you'll rank it low. I like it and played enough to fully appreciate it.

England at home often have me on the edge of my seat. Sure, it's not going to be exciting for every minute of every day but you get intense periods where a batsman may dominate a bowler, or conversely a session of brilliant swing bowling. The end of games, particularly limited overs can get very tense.
