That should work.. You may need to add a bit of corn or tapioca starch to help with binding.

Nearly every commercial potato and tortilla chip, actually.

Also, potato chips != fries.

Sheesh.

My wife likes a six inch french fry when she's "in the mood" for something salty. She makes a buttery baked patato; however, I rarely get it served to me after she engulfs the frites.

Don't use instant mashed potatoes. They swell up like crazy. Use regular homemade mashed potatoes.

Wife v1.0 loved potato pancakes and those were a good way to use up any leftovers. The thing is that one time she used instant due to time constraints the night before. They swelled up to four times the size. Not usually a big deal but she used a hot sammich machine to make them into perfect triangles. There were mashed potatoes oozing out of it like the blob in that 50's movie.

What happened to America? We used to be the vanguard of fast food evolution. America used to set the trends while the rest of the world caught up.

/I give it two weeks before some hole in the wall in either SF or NYC starts selling this

There's a place in Berkeley and Oakland that is famous for their "puffs" which are deep fried mashed potatoes. If these taste anything similar (which I imagine they would as it is just a long/thin version of the exact same thing) they are farking amazing.

Nah. Them spiral taytos on a stick are the best. Especially if served by a bored, grease covered 16 year-old in a tanktop

Lets face it - anything onnastick if served by a bored, grease covered 16 year-old in a tanktop is good.  Especially if you've been drinking beer.

I am sometimes a pain in the ass.  Like, to my friend who cooked at a pub that I like, so I biatched a lot about the short fries he'd serve me.  Like, I'd set them off to the side just to show him how many pathetic little potato stubs he was serving me.

Apparently I got through to him, because he once told me I was getting fries if I wanted them or not, and they were giant farking fries.  He apparently went to two supermarkets to get enough giant potatoes to hand cut into fries to make me an order of fries where every french fry was at least 6 inches long.

When I went to pay for my beers and giant farking fries, I saw on the tab "1 Frize Queen".

Well played by the server.

On our traditional end-of-summer trip to the state fair my kiddo and I usually share a brick of fries. I'm not sure how he finds room for fries after consuming a yard of bacon on a stick but there you go...

Apart from the fact that fried extruded mashed potato is not a French Fry,  it's just a foot-long tater-tot.  They do look pretty good.

I found the video annoying in the length they went to gloss over the fact that it's extruded.  "They form the mashed potato into balls.  They then push the balls through a device to create strips".    Um... ok.
