40-50 stitches is probably just an overachieving plastic surgeon - better/more stitching will help minimize scarring. They likely brought her to a specialist, since her career involves being pretty.

If an ugly-ass motherfarker like me walked in with the same injury, they'd probably have had a resident put ~5 stitches in and be done. After all, hey, chicks dig mensur scars, right? *rolleyes*

So, presumably on the side of her face we can't see? She may still be attractive in spite of the stitches, but I assume they aren't invisible stitches.

For my ankle reconstruction, I had a lot of stitches... permanent sutures connecting the bone/ligaments (15 or 20), dissolvable holding some of the tisue down (he didn't count), and more on the dermis level. When you stitch that many sutures... I can see losing count.

My doc did a helluva job. A 5" incision healed down to a pencil lead width scar and three almost invisible camber holes for the scoped bits.

Over the past decade, they have made a lot of effort to reduce scarring, since it leads to other issues later.

Considering she's extremely talented (although not my cup of tea), has a huge country music fan base, is a powerful figure in her industry, and is in the 99.9 percentile as far as conventional looks, her scar will only serve to make her a bit more human and relatable.      The only way it won't go over well is if she makes a big deal out of it and comes across as vain.

Looks kind of like the left side of her face (her left, not the view) might be a little messed up, like nerve damage.  Might just be the pic angle or her expression.

Got a scar above my left eye courtesy of a nice, soft oak night stand.  14 stitches on the outside, no clue how many on the inside.  Still a bit numb after 3 or so years and that part of my face doesn't move quite like it used to.  I really wish the doc didn't do as good a job as he did lol, the scar isn't all that noticeable unless you really look.  I wanted a kick ass pirate scar!

Not really overachieving, given said requirement to be pretty.  And you're  right:  I really am wondering how many I'd get if I walked into an ER with the same injury.  "Superglue and a bill for $10,000" is probably the answer.  Hence, I don't go to a lot of ERs.

On the other hand (err, bah-dum-tishhhh), an underweight 34 year old who broke her wrist with a simple fall ~really~ ought to get her bone density checked early and often.  It's too late to add any strength (naturally), but ya' can work on preventing losing more.

the head turn seems a bit forced;  wonder if the left side of her face is where the damage is.  she looks fine though.

i had a friend take a tumble down the stairs, dropping a glass, which she then slammed her forehead against.  she insisted alcohol was not involved, was staying at a friend's house and was unfamiliar with the layout, was her story.  who knows.  anyways, it left a nice little gash above her eyebrow that plastic surgery didn't fix.  she covered the problem, literally, with a new hairstyle that 5-6 years on, she still wears.  old timey look.

my old job, i had a quarterly meeting with this group of people.  the leader was a cute female.  in crude caveman terms, not a lot up top.  just sayign.  so we had our meeting this time of year, early january.  she comes in like TADDDOWWWWWWWWWWW-CLIP-CLOP BAAAAAAAMMMMMM!!!!!   just massive breasts.  i'd seen her for about 2 years and this was a whole new person.  and she knew it.  a sparkle in her eyes with 'her new self'.

the group was about 9-10 males and her.  you could see the smirks and virtual ESP of the guys in the room, dying to say something but of course, being unable to.  what's the protocol on that?  "suzy, looks like Santa was really, really good to you this year!"  if you notice, you're farked, and if you don't notice.....

Always ask for the plastic surgeon on call.  It's not just about having a minimal scar. There's nerve damage and healing time.  I don't care if my finger has a scar on it, but I do care that it's now numb from the last knuckle.

I would hardly classify an incident requiring 40-50 stitches as a "simple fall.".  No matter your weight, that kind of fall can easily result in broken bones.

nein: I would hardly classify an incident requiring 40-50 stitches as a "simple fall.".  No matter your weight, that kind of fall can easily result in broken bones.

(a) As already mentioned, she got 40-50 stitches for cosmetic reasons.  Without a shot of the opened wound, it's hard to know what non-celebrities / non-paid-for-their-looks / non-wealthy people would get.  That number has no relation to the severity of the injury, let alone the fall itself.

(b) Did it involve an external source of energy? (Car crash / falling off a 2nd story balcony / getting hit by a 280# linebacker / etc?)  If it's only a body-weight slip-and-fall, it's a simple fall that shouldn't really result in broken bones, though the wrist is particularly fragile, even in normal-weight/healthy-bone people.

SFSailor: nein: I would hardly classify an incident requiring 40-50 stitches as a "simple fall.".

We have no idea if she got that many stitches because of cosmetic reasons. You don't just get stitches to look good- if something required even a quarter of that many stitches, chances are that it was a pretty significant injury.  I highly doubt this was an injury that required only 5 stitches, but she got 50 just to look better.

Again, we have no idea.  I'm sure she has a big house, maybe she fell down a huge flight of stairs.  Maybe she crashed into a heavy marble thing.  We don't know, but given the combination of her injuries, I wouldn't attribute her broken wrist to being underweight.

I don't know about her face but I figure she can crack walnuts between her thighs.

The original tweet about her great personal tragedy showed how she was hiding her horrific scars.
