One of the guys they put in charge of WH communications didn't know what off-the-record meant, or was too stupid to invoke it, and then was fired a matter of hours later.

The bar in this WH is low. Trump hires idiots because he is one.

LaBlueSkuld: The moment the last few weeks of the election campaign they started talking more about TrumpTV than anything else it was obvious what the plan was. Hell, I can see his disgusting face smugly smirking over scrolling banners and graphics even too garish for Fox News as he tells his viewers they could have had him handling the bad situation of the hour but Crooked Hillary ruined it for them.

In other words, he would have ripped this country apart regardless of the outcome of the election.

That would leave Pence in charge. Not sure you've thought your cunning plan all the way through here.

I'm pretty sure that not having to worry about nuclear destruction every time North Korea says mean things is worth having Pence.

It's not like Trump isn't advancing all of the worst parts of a Pence presidency anyway.

It isn't invalid.  Both teams, Red and Blue, had to at least pretend to give a fig what happened outside of the four or so major metro areas.  Without the EC, they don't, and flyover country will get sold out faster than you can say Jack Robinson in an effort to win over the sophisticated urbanites.

skyotter: Thanks again for electing this asshole, you assholes.

Don't kid yourself.   Voters didn't put him in place, because voters don't elect presidents, no matter how you want to spin it.

The republican party is absolutely 100% responsible for anything and everything he does, and any fallout from his actions,  The right wing had their opportunity to show this guy the door in the summer of 2016, and decided not to.   And as generally shiatty as your field was, any one of them was better suited to lead than DJT is.

Since then, the right wing has embraced being portrayed as white supremacist sympathizers, advocates of nepotism. You've proudly displayed yourselves as proponents of foreign interference in the election process, and abuse of executive power.    None of this is debatable at all.

You've established a new low in what passes for candidate qualification, and will pander to any mindset or history as long as it pulls on the R lever.   Frankly, you ceasing to exist as a political party would be one of the better things to happen to the US.

Warthog: Stop a second -- he wants to prove he didn't collude with Russia to win the race.  Wouldn't convincing people that he never wanted to win go a long way towards convincing them he had no reason to collude?  What if this is the story line the White House is now pushing, because being incompetent is embarrassing, but not criminal.

He agreed to run, but that doesn't mean he wanted to win the prize. The Russians would have been happy just tarnishing Hillary's presidency, keep in mind that their twitter bots were going hard on creating a stolen election narrative before his numbers started improving. Trump wanted to be out of this and breaking ground on Trump Tower Moscow by the new year.

When you've made a deal with the Russian mob you don't have the ability to steer where it's going to go. Once their intel officers realized how well the con worked on dullard-Americans, they shifted gears to actually going for the win.

The Third Man: The only problem with this theory is the obvious one:  if he didn't want to be President then, why does he want to be President now?  It's not like the job is getting any easier or less stressful.  And he'd make a ton of money off of rubes if he resigned and blamed "the deep state" or "Killary" or some other nonsense for making his job impossible.

Bottom line is, as President Trump is hated by the people he wants to impress, and his base is comprised of the poor, uneducated folks he's looked down on his entire life.  As former President, he can make money off those poor, uneducated folks--and really, making money off of the easily-scammed is the only thing he's ever shown a real passion for doing--and the people he wants to impress will find someone else to hate.  But he's showing no interest in becoming a former President.  So maybe he does want to be the leader after all.

I think this snippet answers your question.

But still to come was the final transformation: Suddenly, Donald Trump became a man who believed that he deserved to be, and was wholly capable of being, the president of the United States.

2018-01-03 02:30:34 PM
Trump previously claimed that Manafort, who was in charge of his campaign, had very little to do with the campaign. Now he's claiming that Bannon, who replaced Manafort, was a late arrival, and just "a staffer", who had little to do with his election win or his presidency.

Seems legit.

You don't have to be an asshole to make your point.  1 person should count for 1 vote.  That's it.  That's the logical argument.  It's 2018, FFS. You don't have to live in a metro area in order to have a job.  Heck, I work for a big, evil Wall Street bank and I work from home...that home is definitely not ever going to be in an urban environment again.

Let's see....add up NYC, LA, Chicago and DFW (largest metro areas), you are at 50 million of the 323 million people in this country. Take that number and knock it down 30% to get to the number of voters and you have 35 million voters. Let's say they break dem at 90% (generous, as its probably closer to 70%, but whatever), and you have 31M voters, assuming 100% turnout. That wont even get you to half of the number of votes Clinton got. And the populations fall off very rapidly.

This whole "only care about 3 population centers" bullshiat needs to stop. You are horribly and terribly misinformed and downright wrong

I've tried to explain this to Trumpers I know who point to the giant swath of red that voted for him.    I always go to my Multnomah/Harney counties comparison.   Harney County is the 10th largest county in the US, over 10K square miles.  Multnomah County comes in at 466 sq. miles.   Harney County has some 7300 people in it.  Multnomah has 800K.   I even took the time took the time and took some graph paper with the relative sizes.   Was going to use quarters as indicative of the population.  Three for Harney (being generous) and then realized I couldn't get enough quarters.
