FormlessOne: If the preliminary statistic for 2017 holds, it puts the city's homicide rate at 39.7 per 100,000 residents, Detroit's lowest rate in nearly four decades

Do try to visit at least; you sound delicious. Also, if you could cover yourself in the Colonel's 11 secret herbs and spices before you arrive, we'd appreciate it.

Has Trump claimed credit for it?

Because if Trump has not claimed credit for, it never happened. Just Fake News from Public Enemy Number One. Sad.

I'm in the Detroit airport so I'm getting a kick...

My connecting flight was delayed 3 hours, and now that I found a quiet, secluded space next to a power outlet a family with a screaming kid decided they needed to sit right behind me.

Detroit might be off to an early start to the stabbiness this year.

/ Flight is to Baltimore.

Sword and Shield: SirEattonHogg: Richard Saunders: That's nice'n all, but I'm more impressed by the 1979-2016 decrease in population. Holy sh*t. Knew things were spiraling downward for them, but wow.

My only experience with Detroit was flying in to buy a truck from a fella about 45 min. north of there. Retired Ford auto worker. Great guy with a wonderful family.

Sort of a common misconception.  Yeah the city itself dramatically shrunk, but everyone who could just moved to the suburbs - including the companies.  Fact is Metro Detroit is still like the 10th or 11th largest populated area in the country (right behind SF/Oakland and Boston).

14th, actually, for Detroit-Ann Arbor-Dearborn-Windsor, which is what the US uses as its definition.

Not too shabby.  I suppose.

Although including Windsor... that sounds like a bit of cheat.

That it is falling is good news. Considering how the GOP loves to blame it on the Dems and not to the auto industry bailing and the GOP governor and legislature screwing the state, it is welcome news. I am sure the GOP will do something to drive it back up in the near future.
