Wrongful arrest suits I hope.  There's no plausible way in which the bacon bunch can pretend that a bag of weed has 63 owners.

Now when I have less than an ounce of marijuana, I consider myself... out of marijuana.

No. They just need to prove 63 times that it had a single owner.

Cartersville police responded to a "shots fired" call around 2:18 AM on New Year's Eve at a "Christmas Lingerie Party," and soon found the marijuana.

1) shot fired call, no mention of arrests for gun possession or if they even found a gun
2) 2.18: AM is now New Year's day not eve
3) "Christmas Lingerie Party"  Christmas... Lingerie.... Party
4) "soon found the marijuana" aka "Jim, did you remember to bring the weed to plant?"

The law doesn't work like your mean first grade teacher's class when she punishes the whole class by keeping them in from recess.

You'd think so, wouldn't you?

I wonder when Cannabevets will be along to applaud this fine police work.

Well, it could have been a neighbor also. They should have arrested them. All the neighbors in the city and the state, and the country.  Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight. O'er the ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly.......

Christ, it's like cop shops are staffed with Trumperian Professors of Law these days. They figure the law can be whatever they imagine it to be.

I'm sure there will be a particularized statenent of probable cause as to the search as well as each individual arrest.  I am sure...

Yeah...right.

And that's when the murders...no, er, lawsuits started.

Damn. That must have been one hell of a case of disrespect of cop.

Sounds like Making a Murderer, when Avery and Dassey both murdered Teresa Halbach in two different places with two different weapons.

I'm curious how many will be convicted separately for the same ounce of weed.

Surprised the cops haven't started seizing vehicles in asset forfeiture,  since they all drove to the party with the same ounce.

How many lids is that?

2018-01-03 12:26:16 AM
Wow, the GED lawyers are out in force tonight.

This is how drug arrests work. If drugs aren't claimed by someone in particular, they belong to anyone in the room who reasonably could have had "care, custody, or control" of said drugs. So if you had an ounce of weed in a baggie near a bong on a table in the middle of the room, and nobody will cop to it...it now belongs to everyone who was in the room.

Can everyone be CONVICTED of possession? No. But that's not the cops' problem. They bring in all 63 partygoers  (whose personal responsibility is in question by their parents' calling them "our babies") and let the DA decide who gets charged, and with what.

Chances are, either the one who supplied the pot had a previous drug charge and nobody wanted to rat him out; or more likely, being college kids, they wanted to be surly and cool and stick it to The Man and not cooperate knowing mommy and daddy would be there in the morning.

2018-01-03 12:27:25 AM
62/63 chance that the weed belonged to someone else is reasonable doubt by any reasonable standard.

Prosecution and police action in a constitutional republic with a bill of rights is supposed to be passed in individualized suspicion, not group suspicion.

What, in Jebus's name, medical condition would require you to need 8oz of weed a day? Even Snoop Dogg would say "Damn man, I think that's a bit much." shiat, I don't think Snoop, Bob Marley, Willy Nelson, and Cheech AND Chong could smoke 8oz in a day.

Or the police planted the evidence when they were 'disrespected' and didn't have anything to go on, including the probably bogus "gunshots heard" initial complaint.

Check the neighbors, see who's friends with which cop and it will lead you to how things more likely happened.

This is also how everyone gets let go a few hours later, as none of that shiat will stick for five minutes unless some fool admits to it.  Also a good way to get the DA to chew you a new orifice - through your superiors of course - since they had to sit through the DA's office asking them pointedly why the sam fark they're now stuck with being technically obligated to see if there's cause to indict 63 separate individuals.  With zero prospects for finding out jack.  Pull this one a few times, and you're gonna be in for it once the shiat from the DA's office rolls downhill.

/one of those things that maybe seems like a good idea at the time
//it won't that night, when you are a wee bit late getting offshift due to the "Farking quit it, jackhole" lecture
///or more, if whoever fielded the DA's office call really got gnawed on

The funny thing though is out of 63 people not one of them decided to claim it to free 62 people.

Also this will be dropped eventually, seems like a hell of a waste of resources.

You don't have to use it all that day. You can buy 8 ounces in one trip, and then use it slowly over the course of whenever. A lower number would create the need for people to make multiple separate trips. This creates an arbitrarily large maximum.

I have a hard time imagining getting through an ounce in a month, let alone a day.
