So which republican senator has a black chief of staff, exactly? By specifying he's the only dem senator, as opposed to the only senator, it implies that another non-dem senator has a black chief of staff. So who is it?

GOP Sens. Tim Scott (S.C.) and Jerry Moran (Kan.) also have black chiefs of staff.

You'd think that more Democrat Senators would have black people working for them as chiefs of staff... Especially someone like Cory Booker. So it's obviously true that Democrats only need black people when they want to get extra votes.

According to a 2016 report from Roll Call, only 5 percent of nearly 3,600 Senate staffers are black.

I wonder if this is an indication of inherent bias or if it reflects that fewer blacks go into politics (or stay involved enough to advance to such a position (or if blacks not generally advancing to such a position shows bias)).

RTFA and you will find out.  Here is a hint, there are a total of three in the senate and only five percent of hill staffers are African-American.  Both of these statistics need to change....

Getting to that point involves things like unpaid internships or volunteering for campaigns. Plus, you have to do it while living in or near the extraordinarily high cost of living DC. Y'know, the kind of stuff you need rich parents to do.

I suspect that it is a twofer.  Plenty of inherent bias, plus other paths to power for blacks (we really are at least two nations that way).  I'm guessing that churches and various other "black paths" are far more important than staffing some white guy for black political power.

Well, his chances of re-election in 2020 are slim at best, so even though I adore him and would love to keep him as my senator, I wouldn't be mad at him for deciding to run for POTUS instead. And if he doesn't make it out of the primaries, he'd make one heck of a VP or AG pick.

He's got some great experience while also being a fairly fresh face in politics. He's level headed and likeable. He's not as far to the left as a lot of people would probably want him to be, but then neither was Obama. And he apparently comes with a Joe Biden action figure.

Nobody ever says that about a white guy. If Jones had hired a white CoS, nobody would call that "virtue signaling".  The assumption here is that a black guy would not necessarily be qualified for the job, and that;s farking racist.

That is not the assumption at all.  The assumption is that in the race for 'diversity' and 'equality' many people quickly hire the first person along to meet their goals and don't necessarily spend the time to find applicants that are truly qualified for the position.

You can blame affirmative action and the current crop of Social Justice nuts for this.   Affirmative action hurts more people than it helps and stigmatizes those that do succeed.

No, statistics do... people are finding out those that graduate via affirmative action are not as qualified as those who aren't... that is a fact.

Mostly because colleges have quotas for minority graduation rates.. so they make it happen.

https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/10/the-painful-truth-about-affirmative-action/263122/

Obama did not help the situation either, by sealing his college records, people assume he was a bad student and probably should not have graduated.   And his college transcripts are still sealed.

Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

I'm the lefty-ist left who ever lefted, and this is precisely why I hope he runs (though I don't know all that much about him, so that opinion is open to change).  While I want to live in a fantasyland of progressive delights, I am grounded enough to know that the best chance -any- progressive causes have in our country is the nomination of an appealing centrist like Mr. Obama or Mr. Clinton.  (Mrs. Clinton would have great, too, but has, and will forever have, problems with the "appealing" bit that are no fault of her own.)  If Mr. Jones can win a hard-red southern state, and drive minority turn out, I'm ready to toss him a few bucks and volunteer, should he run for the nomination.

Okay, girls... You're both pretty.

Just to clear things up, this guy had a pretty extensive resume that makes him more than qualified. Among other things, he's an Alabama native who worked under the Obama administration as well as various other members of the Alabama delegation in Congress. He has at least 14 years of experience in DC.
