And, I say, use those cats to feed our nations poor, which will free up millions of pounds of cat food to feed to our nation's elderly...

Why would anyone want to rescue a hoarder?

Lance Robdon: Why would anyone want to rescue a hoarder?

Why would anyone provide treatment to a mentally ill person?

Wow. That would be dangerous! Recursive hoarding of hoarders could create a black hole, and destroy the planet.

good advice.

"Try to refrain from passing judgment," she said, "because you never know the struggle each person has."

I have a hoarding problem. I am a digital photograph hoarder. The reason is that I have not one single photograph from my childhood. I am not that important to my family, but if I said that having one photo of myself as a child was very important, anyone in my family I would speak to would roll their eyes, call me a drama queen, and insult me and hurt my feelings. with love, of course. but I still wouldnt' get the photo of me as a kid. I would get lectures on everything I have done wrong in my life, but I wouldn't get a photo. And all my memories of having multiple traumas inflicted on me as a child are just "false memories" or some shiat to them, or at least that's what they would say if I went into detail. I mean, I could say a few things they wouldnt' deny..but the worst of it..they probably would. to this day.

so I hoard digital photos because they are all I have of me, and they help me remember where I have been and find some beauty..and kid myself that I could share something of me and someone would like it. but when I do I get called an attention whore or something..or do something wrong.

anyway, if I had someone to help me go through stuff it would be different, but I don't. it is what it is.

It will probably all get deleted by someone not me someday anyway. everything on the internet negative is forever..but anything positive goes and disappears if the powers that be want it to be like that.

but I still have my memories, and they are real ones. very real.

CSB:  I tried to help my MIL clean out a house and garage and had to quit.  She had to examine every single object and talk about it.  I couldn't get her to throw away even junk mail.  I quit helping after it became apparent that it was going to take days to fill even a single trash bag.  It was frustrating as hell .

And by next year it'll be right back to the way it was. My MIL just WILL NOT STOP feeding and taking in feral cats. I trapped over a dozen and got them spayed/neutered for free by the county and there were so many more. She insisted someone feed them when she fell and was in the hospital for a PE ( we caught as many as possible and took them to a shelter ).

Old cat people and hoarders never ever stop.

It is one of those Fark rules that are Frozen in time.

My Grandmother was a hoarder, pure and simple. Magazines, books, whatever. I lived there for a while, got used to the junk. When she fell on the ice and broke her shoulder, she stayed at my Uncles for a few weeks. She spent most of her time in a recliner there. My Uncle was pissed that she started spreading junk around like she was at home. My family got a trailer and filled it up, cleaned the house really well. She was pissed when she came home to a clean house, and started accumulating junk again. Her comfort zone. One thing we couldn't throw away, a second grade reading textbook, said it was for one of her Granddaughters. I pointed out the Granddaughter had graduated college and was a teacher, so there was no reason to keep it. That pissed her off more. That she was out of the county when her house was cleaned.

Not sure I get the hoarding angle, do they mean they were hoarding cats? The pics in the article looks more like clutter, with a little filth thrown in. Pretty typical of the elderly when they can no longer clean up for themselves.

I kept a dead pet in the freezer for five years. I didn't want to throw him in the trash, and it was a freezing hellscape of a winter, so I couldn't really bury him. Then I just didn't get around to doing anything else until I moved. It was a sugar glider, and he barely took up room. He was curled up in a Tupperware container.

Now, if I ever do that with my cat, yes, okay, I have a problem.

He was a man with two careers... one as a sexy leading man and the other as a dead-pan comedian.  Quite an accomplishment...

I don't know:  Cary Grant was always considered sexy and Jack Lemmon was always considered a little dorky.  Both fine actors.  I'd put Grant in my top five...
