"Clemson repeats as national champs".  Not after Alabama beat them last night.

2018-01-02 02:55:33 PM
John Cena isn't winning anything. Roman Reigns has gotten over (finally), so the title will shuffle a bit, and Cena will shuffle off to Hollywood.

Danica wins both 500s in 2018.

2018-01-02 03:02:24 PM

good_2_go: Danica wins both 500s in 2018.

That would be a stunning prediction, even if she hadn't retired.

Harper's megadeal will be worth far too much for the cubs to sign unless they get rid of a lot of their core. Rizzo is vastly underpaid for his position.  Bryant set a record for a pre-arbitration player salary. Contreras, Baez, and Russell are all in need of pay bumps and then you have to consider ancillary (possibly more) pieces like Almora, Schwarber, and Happ and where they will end up. Hayward's expensive ass deal will be around forever too.

2018-01-02 03:03:42 PM
Lebron will never win another MVP because it's a foregone conclusion that he's the most valuable player in the league. Until he retires, you might as well addend the award to Most Valuable Player That Isn't Lebron James

Not listed: Browns win a game

She's not retiring until after both 500s.

I probably should have seen that being at the top and all...

....

Good thing I haven't watched one these DVR'd Raw episodes in months. If this is accurate then I have missed NOTHING of value.

So individually they're predicting the Pats and Rams in the Super Bowl.

NO.

The team who scores the most points in the Super Bowl will win the game.

real talk: who's in either team's way?

2018-01-02 03:16:15 PM
"Tom Brady is back in the Super Bowl" - I'm pretty sure that Vegas has said that since the start of the season.
"Conor McGregor fights again" again, odds of sports legends staying retired until proven they can't hack it anymore (and often well beyond that)?
"Tiger Woods posts a top 10 finish at a Major" Not sure the point.  Tiger would like a top-10 finish anywhere most of the PGA (and especial Euro competition) shows up, but really only cares about the top-1 finisher at majors.
"NBA repeals one-and-done rule" - yeah, but they'll manage to replace it with something worse.
"Staggering penalties come from NCAA recruiting scandal" I'm sure they will hammer Northwestern (or other "fall guy" university) with penalties to make your head spin.
"2018 Olympics risk becoming an international incident of many faces" Not a repeat since 1989 (incidents before that were swept under the rug to allow for Cold War jingoism).
"Roger Goodell falls on the sword for the state of the NFL"  riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.  Goodell has the NFL right where he wants it.
"The rise of esports continues" I think its more of "owner stupidity and greed continue to destroy modern sportsball".
"John Cena wins record 17th World Championship" live stuntsmanship is impressive, but whar are the sports?
"At least two PGA Major tournaments are won by first-timers" Way back when, the US Open was often won by a no-name that was hot for 4 consecutive days (Masters and UK Open players would learn the course, not applicable for US Open and PGA).  I'd give it less than even odds, but that is probably good enough for this list.
"The Golden State Warriors do not win the NBA Finals" Bookies are booking a hit on Curry *and* Durrant?

/don't follow sportsball
//do follow odds
///and the NCAA [official acts, not games] is about as perdictable as they come

Read a little closer. Pats in the upcoming Super Bowl. Rams in next year's.

They added the caveat that the Rams prediction was actually for 2019, but the prediction includes the 2018 season.

stop trying to make Tiger happen. he's done

"no really THIS time he's totally healthy" yeah OK

that take was f*ckin' fire. flame emojis all over the damn place. his back is being held together with painkillers and the remnants of sex swings.

would I bet with him at a driving range? of course not. is he going to top 10 a PGA tour? lolno

2018-01-02 03:35:07 PM
If the NBA gets rid of one-and-done, I think they'll go to the baseball system. Either straight in, or a three year wait.

The one thing I can't figure out is how they're going to incorporate the G-league. If they don't count it as part of the Association proper, but you can have a kid choose between a guaranteed three year paycheck in the minor leagues as opposed to 3 years in college, it could benefit both the college and pro game. And I say that as a fan of the team that has benefited from one-and-done more than any other.

There's a reason Calipari won an NCAA tournament in 2012. The 2011 NBA lockout kept his draft picks in school another year.

Ehh, a major on a course that suits his game, like Augusta or Pebble Beach or St. Andrews if it's not windy and cold as hell, and I can see him making a move that puts him in the top 10.  I can't see him winning it.  But he might have a run like Nicklaus at the '86 Masters left in him.

2018-01-02 03:44:25 PM
I don't mind of Bryce Harper wins the MVP, but I really hope he goes to the American League when he becomes a free agent.  Out of sight, out of mind. Please keep him out of the NL central at least.  (Pirates fan here)

I have no doubt the refs will find a way to get New England back to the Super Bowl again.

Any penalties from the NCAA recruiting scandal will be rescinded within five years, just like all those titles and wins that Penn State "lost" after the Paterno scandal.

The Vegas Golden Nights will make the playoffs.  Given the number of playoff seeds in hockey, it would be harder to NOT be in the playoffs.

Roger Godell will continue to suck, but will never claim responsibility for anything.

I commented on esports as well, and they don't have to bother with stuntmanship.
/only now noticed that no predictions were made on Francis screwing up NASCAR even more

he had a shot at this lineup in 2010, didn't happen

Gonz: If the NBA gets rid of one-and-done, I think they'll go to the baseball system. Either straight in, or a three year wait.

Baseball doesn't have any kind of system, it's just incredibly difficult to play in the majors immediately, whether you are coming from high school or college or whatever

My answer to bainsguy still stands.

Gonna go out on a really thin, old, dead limb and say that the Lions will win a Super Bowl

Glockenspiel Hero: Not listed: Browns win a game

Even with the cap space they have and the number of draft picks, Lions probably still a better pick to win Super Bowl than Browns to win a game

MLB lets you go straight in, apply for the draft as a college jr or sr, or leave whenever from juco.

Goodell is wrong

See, Roman couldn't get anything over because Vince keeps force feeding him.

Then again, really don't care about the WWE at this point and looking forward to Westle Kingdom 12 and the New Year's Dash show later in the week.

If Tiger is Top 10 at Pebble and St. Andrews, he's not doing it in majors in 2018.

Augusta, Shinnecock, Carnoustie, and some random track for the PGA where 21-under will probably win.

Augusta is what it is, Shinnecock is a putting contest that the USGA can turn unplayable, and Carnoustie totally depends on the weather. Like, even more heavily than an average Open. Last two winning scores were -7 and 6 over.

Not my sport, though I used to watch both predetermined performances at one point.  I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of people that jump down wrestling fans' throats with "IT'S FAKE!!!1!!1!" and still watch the NBA.

The most farfetched sports prediction of 2018 is that Marvin Lewis will renew his contract with the Bengals.

And it just f*cking happened.

Jon Gruden comes back to the Raiders, and once again proves he at best a mediocre coach.

Tiger Woods will win a PGA event, and finish top 5 in a major.

The Los Angeles Rams will win the Superb Owl their first year back, over New England, 31-17.  Brady will throw a pick 6.  Jared Goff will be the MVP.

Golden State will beat Boston in the NBA finals; the Celtics beat the Cavs 4-1 in the East Finals.

Houston will repeat as MLB champions.

The winter olympics in Worst Korea will come off without a hitch.

good_2_go: Danica wins both 500s in 2018.

I could actually see her winning Indy.  If she got in a Carpenter ride, or a Dayle Coyne ride, and the luck happened JUST right... she could get it.

Victoly: Alonso gets two wins: Daytona and Le Mans

Running in a Ligier with United at Daytona?  Not gonna happen.  And as for Le Mans... Radio Le Mans guys put it best.  Put all your money on the other Toyota.  Alonso's a hell of a driver, but has the worst luck of any driver in recent memory.

Someone's liver will finally give out during the annual Fark NHL playoffs thread.
The same person will (a) return the following year with a transplanted liver just for the purpose of earning the badge, or (b) bequeath their TotalFark account to one of the regulars, despite OL creating a new alt and claiming the account should go to him.

Johnny the Tackling Alzheimers Patient: Someone's liver will finally give out during the annual Fark NHL playoffs thread.

My girlfriend is a USC fan, and I'm an OSU fan, and she was asking me what we were drinking for the game.  She initially suggested Goonjuice, but I declined because I wanted to keep NHL playoff time holy.  We settled for Angry Balls.
