It had a shiatty start, but I liked the direction Discovery was finally going.  I'll watch more.

Have any of the Start Trek series, with the exception of TOS, been decent in the first season?  I mean, the first season of TNG was a disaster.  (Check out the documentary "Chaos on the Bridge" about what a clusterfark it really was.)

Thee xfiles will be awful and I will watch every episode.

I hope (but don't expect) that the X-Files will have a better thought out arc for this season.  The only comfort I take is that I read that there are 2 episodes penned by Darin Morgan.

It's never going to get a conclusion. I realized that after watching season 10. I'm going in this time realizing they will never end the show... so I'm not really invested in anything that happens as far as the Alien arc goes.

But give me any episode like the Were-human one with Murray, I'm in. Those bottle episodes are where the show shines.

That's not Star Trek. It's "Trek-Based Streaming CBS Product."

Just watched most of the new season of Black Mirror. I think that episode is my favorite in that season.

It's basically a more character-focused DS9, man.  I get that everyone's all "wah, wah, no true scotsman" about DS9 as well, but that shiat ran for seven damned seasons, it's as much part of the 'canon' as TNG or Voyager and ran more than twice as long as ToS.

At some point you're going to have to just deal with the Federation having a dark underbelly and occasionally having to actually deal with spaceified analogies of problems real historical wide-spanning empires have dealt with where not everyone involved is reliable and there isn't necessarily some heroic third option where you both get to win and feel completely justified on all your moral scruples.  Honestly, you've had series that tried to go back to the morally-uncomplicated heroism model... it was called "Voyager" and it resulted in 90% of the characters coming off as complete psychopaths most of the time.  This isn't a thing that's going to get un-woven.

Yeah, this is where I am about it. I did a rage-delete of season 10 from the Tivo after the season finale and I'm still going to watch season 11. Dammit.

/still wondering why they skipped from season 7 directly to 10. There were no seasons 8 or 9.

I was an apologist for season 10 until that godawful final episode.  Then I had to apologize for defending it.

Which episode is the comedy episode?  Because that is the only episode I will be watching of X-Files.

As a star trek snob, I think this series has the best start out of any of the other series'.  Yep, it certainly is 'different' but this is the 60s, or 80s/90s either.  I'm very curious to where it's headed.  My 'this would be neat' thought is that they were in a mirror universe and 'shroomed their way into our universe, where that drive won't work.

Agreed. Let's hope they can keep the quality going for the rest of the season. Treks back!
