I've never been fond of drivers with their tiny dogs in their laps, but I must admit those little dogs will quite handily dampen the blow of the airbag when they crash

Actually, the opposite.  Those are bony dogs.  It's like keeping a bag full of hammers and wrenches on your lap when the airbag goes off - lots and lots of broken ribs and ruptured spleens.

When we ride both dogs are seat belted in... Gus will ride in the front seat and Casey wedges into the back... If we were in a crash it would probably be painful for them but they won't go flying thru the windshield

How am I supposed to transport my dog in a two seater? In the trunk?

I have a friend who has a little dog and it always struck me as funny when she puts it in in her little doggy seat all safe and seat belted in place. That's because I drive with a 100 pound dog that would never even attempt such a feat, he sits behind the passenger seats cargo area of my Expedition behind a little fence which means he wont fly far, but he will hit a little steel fence, hopefully that never happens

FTFA: Hawaii is the only state that specifically prohibits drivers from holding an animal in their lap or allowing one in their immediate area

Kind of funny when Hawaii leads the way in driving safety

But if he's not in the front seat, I need to wave my cane in front of the car all the time.

Gus looks all "I get to ride up front with dad!" and Casey looks all "That's not fair!".

Gus thinks he is people and Casey has accepted the fact that she can sit up front because the bucket seat doesn't go all the way to the door and when she sticks her head out the window she is constantly falling on the floor.

I can't bring the dog in the car. He aggravates the bear.

Not exactly the same thing, but I always like when I pull up to a stoplight and the passenger in the car to my left has a yappy dog on her lap. I look the dog in the eyes, bare my teeth at it, then pretend like I didn't do anything when the dog loses its shiat attacking the window.

None of this matters because you can't bring the dog into the store and if you leave him in the car some busybody will be on your ass (and calling the cops) in about 20 seconds.

In my husband's truck, our 90lb dog sits right on the bench seat next to him, and they just go cruising, but we sold the truck so they're both pretty sad. In my car, our dog has to sit in the backseat, he hates it cause it's a coupe and no back windows. We tried letting him sit in the front seat, but he doesn't fit, we're going to try a doggy seatbelt and leaning to seat back to see if it's possible. I cannot wait to buy a new truck so they can go back to cruising together.

My dog is a little strange in that she doesn't seem to like to stick her head out the window.  She does watch, but doesn't seem to care for the airflow.

Of course, she also nuzzles me when I get angry at traffic, which is good.

You may be onto something.
