The guy running as a dem seems like a reasonable candidate option, but Arkansas is a red state... Maybe they can surprise everyone like Alabama. Maybe?

How many Muslims are there in her area? It would be like one of my employers saying "no blacks allowed." Offensive to many, and a great attention-getter, but of little practical impact. My profession has very few blacks.

Well, there's at least one mosque in Arkansas (this is *googles* about 130 miles from her gun range)

Compared to a pedophile in the senate race in Alabama, a racist gun-nut almost seems mainstream...

We can't all work for the GOP

Haven't you seen NCIS? There's terrorists literally everywhere!

Because of course she does.

*facepalm*

Democrats did very, very well in Arkansas state politics right up until about a decade ago.

2018-01-02 09:23:59 AM
Clearly a serious political mind that will have the chops to manage a state.

2018-01-02 09:24:26 AM
It's nice that she didn't exclude Zoroastrians.  So inclusive.

2018-01-02 09:25:35 AM
Sounds like a good opportunity for a Muslim to win a discrimination judgement.

2018-01-02 09:25:40 AM
Well, at least we know she isn't shooting Muslims for sports, that's gotta be good...right...?

Open bigotry has proven to be a winning strategy with the Republican base. We'll be seeing more of this. Much more.

How do you think it became a Muslim free zone?

You could throw in pedophilia, xenophobia, hydrophobia and zoophilia, and even with all those admirable Republicans traits, she'd still be heavily disadvantaged- She's a woman.

Delusional wingnuts regularly run for office. I anticipate you could find a candidate for governor like this even before 9/11.  The difference is the press is now taking them seriously. I guess the public will, too.

I regularly remind her via facebook that I and my buddy, a decorated marine veteran and Muslim visited her range unbeknownst to her and that we had a good laugh about it at her expense.

Her paranoia must be at high alert now, what with all the sekrit muslin terrorists hiding in plain sight.

If you feel the need to publish 20 year old pictures of yourself when you declare that you're running for office I suspect you may not be forthcoming on things that actually matter.

According to her post online(*) it is a private club and not subject to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

(*) I closed the tab. I can look it up again if people really care. Nothing shocking. Just a lot of reasons why she doesn't want Muslims with guns.

The Republican voters are taking them seriously. See  Trump, Donald and Moore, Roy. Open bigotry is now mainstream Republicanism.

Yep. And if anyone asks her about it she'll say that the biased media is attacking her with a "liberal PC smear campaign."

And the rubes will eat up every bite.

Number one reason (without looking) is she's been brainwashed by FN, while all the murders in this country are committed by whackjobs like her.
Awesome.

In 2014, she drew national media attention by declaring her gun range a "Muslim Free Zone," saying that she was concerned about the safety of other customers if Muslims patronized her business.

I have been told, repeatedly and at length, that terrorists only target gun-free zones.  That no Muslim would ever dare to have a stand-up fight against armed Americans.

Was I lied to?

At least they're being honest and not attempting to paint a veneer of respectability over it. There's no putting the genie back in that bottle. Moderates will have to move left out of necessity.

Although I do have sympathy for people who bought into the "fiscally conservative but socially liberal" lie. This has to be a very rude awakening.

Because it's not as if people running on either an explicit (They were celebrating on rooftops on 9/11 and I will ban them from entering the country!) or implicit (Look at this picture of a horde of immigrants pouring into the UK!  If we just keep them out we can free up 350 million pounds a day for the NHS!) platform of Islamophobia could ever hope to win an election.

Nope.  The coverage of Trump is a prime example.  He was always treated as a joke candidate by the press.  Until his poll numbers starting showing he had actual support.  Even Fox was taken by surprise.  They most definitely did not treat him kindly early in the race, favoring instead the establishment types they have always backed while openly mocking Trump as being the lightweight he is.  Plenty of anti-Trump types in the conservative press, even now.  Of course Fox has pulled a 180 since Trump has been shown to be an ideal Useful Idiot, who can be easily manipulated and who acts as a lightning rod for criticism while Ryan and Yertle quietly dismantle our country's institutions in the background.

Trump's election has inspired many nutjobs and morons to seek public office. Remember when "anybody can grow up to be president" was meant to be inspirational and not a threat?
