He doesn't owe an apology for killing Omar. People who are upset about Omar dying a senseless, unheralded death in the final episode of The Wire should apologize for being the sort of halfwits who lacked the basic cognition to understand the show's essential point, which is that "the game" does nothing but cause senseless, unheralded suffering on all sides. What Simon does owe an apology for is the empty shell of a character he turned Kima into during the last season. He might as well have killed her off, too, for how pointless and contradictory her role was at the end.

So, you're saying David Simon doesn't live by a code?

If as an entertainer you create something that causes an emotional reaction to your audience you have done your job.  It's also why Wallace's death was as necessary as it was hard to watch.  Killing Omar wasn't a mistake for two reasons.  First, as PN says, "the game" causes senseless deaths for all involved.  Second, the series ended with Michael becoming the new Omar. Oddly enough, Michael's story was almost an "origins" story for Omar.  Hell, most of the last episode was showing history rhyming on a few fronts - Michael/Omar, Syndor/McNulty, Duquan/Bubbles.  The game perpetuates itself, especially when community leaders (police, politicians, educators, etc.) are focused more on making their metrics look good than on creating a better environment for societal growth.

I've never been able to tell if the kid that shot Omar did it knowing that it was Omar, or just did it just because.

The way Omar got got was perfect too.  Not some gun blazing shootout with Chris and Marlo but rather some random kid making his bones.

I'd put these deaths over Omars as far as being emotional

There is no doubt.  The kid actually worked for Michael and knew who Omar was.

Just reading Bodie's name in your post made me sad. I agree Omar's death was a surprise in a "holy crap did that just happen?" kind of way but it was always just a matter of time. Well done too, nothing to apologize for.

So Simon wants us to vote for folks who have the same ideology that created the problem in Baltimore in the first place!?!?   Wow... that is level 11 irony right there.

You want season 6 of the Wire?   Vote Progressive... again.

So 99.5% of the time since 1947, there has been a Democrat in City Hall in Baltimore.... with pretty much carte-blanche to do whatever they wanted to do....  It didn't happen overnight, but I'd say the last 71 years of lefty-liberal-progressive "leadership" in Charm City deserves a major part of the blame for the way the city is now.

You'd have to be the worst kind of partisan hack imaginable to argue differently... but I'm on Fark so I'm sure there will be takers.

Simon can shove it.

Really?

I make a joke about a bad movie (fwiw I'm not saying you and your kids can't enjoy it- I enjoy plenty of bad movies- but it is very bad) and you jump to "women ruined my childhood"?

Really?

Because I thought the part where I blamed Williams for the movie being terrible was pretty obviously the joke.

THAT was the one that got me. Snoop was a terrible irredeemable character and damned if that death didn't just punch you right in the nads. And it was a sign of how great the writing and acting were.

I was watching "Clarifications" when it premiered.  My now-wife had just gotten home from work; she hadn't seen past the first season of The Wire. Before I could change the channel, Kenard came into the convenience store and the scene unfolded, She looked at me and said, "Well, guess I don't need to watch the show NOW."

They did think of doing Season 6, which would have gone into the Latino community, but they did not have enough knowledge to make a go of it.

A few things. David Simon and Ron Perlman are the best celebrity Tweeters. The Wire ruined all cop shows, especially any involving Dick Wolf, who is an overrated hack. Kenard blowing Omar away was awesome. Seriously, casting Wendell Pierce on a Dick Wolf production was like handing a Stradivarius to Anne Frank.

Check out the IMDb page on Michael K. Williams. Ever since The Wire, he's averaging about 2 or 3 movie roles, 2 or 3 TV shows (Including a lead role on Hap and Leonard), and a handful of voice acting roles per year. Casting directors are trying like hell to get him in as many things as possible. He's starting to put up Samuel Jackson type numbers on his resume.

BTW, Hap and Leonard rules. I can't wait for Season 3 to start. It's a good show with each season based on one of Joe Landsdale book per season. Season 1 is a classic money caper with Fark's favorite redhead.
Season 2 goes for a whodunit and it looks like Season 3 is going to do something with the KKK. I'm thinking about picking up the books now since I enjoyed the show so much.
