(Daily Mail)   Apparently, a lot of people didn't want to get a prescription for pot, but if you can just walk in and buy some...   ( dailymail.co.uk) divider line

Maybe people who want to use it recreationally don't feel like lying about a made-up ailment to get the card?

I for one am shocked that people who would prefer to go to a legitimate business instead of get illegitimate "prescriptions" or deal with the black market would go to a legitimate business.  Have they no shame in their desire to spend their money in a safe, non-criminal way?

Bought some recreational pot when I was in Vegas last month. Haven't smoked in 30 years. I was so high that when I looked down I could see kites looking up at me.

My drug dealer.

My uncle got a scrip even though his only medical issue was not being able to get good weed. I kind of had a problem with him misusing the law that way. For about 15 seconds then "why the fark should I care" overcame my objections.

This.  Applies to a lot of my friends.  But hopefully by the end of the month VT will legalize adults growing their own without papers.

I'm kind of like this too, part of me wants it to be legal, but part of me is like 'more than 250$ an ounce is criminal', plus folks here deliver so there's that.   I do look forward to growing though... once its legal in NC of course.

Pot vs Alcohol

1.  Pot:  Mellowness with a side order of bliss.  Alcohol:  There are sloppy drunks, mean drunks, philosophical drunks and romantic drunks... spin the wheel!
2. Alcohol:  That's an awful lot of whiskey bottles in your recycling.  Pot:  Debris flushes neatly down the toilet...
3.  Pot:  Sweet dreams.  Alcohol:  Get up three times to vomit in the sink and then end up sleeping on the bathroom floor with your arm around the toilet...
4.  Alcohol:  "What are YOU looking at?".  Pot:  "So, what are we looking at?"...
5.  Alcohol:  Clink your glasses together like they do in the movies.  Pot:  Share a hookah that looks as if it came off of the set of 12 Monkeys...
6.  Alcohol:  Count down as the New Years ball drops!  Pot:  "Is it two o'clock already?  Cool..."
7.  Alcohol:  Dog hides under the table.  Pot:  Dog hides under the table with two people who are trying to explain to it the plot to Baby Driver...

Sure, as if insurance companies wouldn't be delighted to charge everyone in a pot database more for all kinds of insurance? Please put me on a list of people who want it officially known they use a substance the federal gov't is eager to destroy lives over. I once opted for a preventative surgery and was charged more monthly by the next insurance company after I moved because I had the preventative surgery.

I think it's funny how everyone is saying "Oh, I like that I can get fancy pot at the dispensary, but I'll keep buying mine on the black market".

You know this is going to go down? It's going to get regulated and taxed by the government, and sold by the major corporations, and it won't be long before the guy selling a baggie of weed is busted not for dealing or possession, but for operating without a license and tax evasion-- and the penalties will be stiffer.

Before long, the only way you'll be able to buy it is if it was made by a major corporation and packaged for sale in your local convenience store or gas station. The price will jump up because now you're also paying the state taxes on it. Stoner culture will become analogous to tobacco culture. The local growers will all get bought our or bullied into submission by giants like Philip Morris, and eventually it will be illegal to grow your own not because the substance is illegal, but because you're using seeds that are the intellectual property of a major corporation that has enough vicious lawyers to ruin you.

In the end, the only way to be involved in "weed culture" is to be part of a big artificial marketing machine owned by a massive corporation. Every aspect of it will be managed by dorks in expensive suits who figure adding a little "kick" to the product to keep you addicted is a good business strategy. Bob Marley's image will be purchased by the top manufacturer, and they'll put his face on t-shirts and cartons.

Your entire subculture is about to get swept away and taken over by the very people you've been fighting against your whole life, and in the end they'll be billionaires and you'll be just another schlub who is reliant on them for giving you what you want.

I think at that point, now bear with me here bc this is unprecedented, a new market, let's call it a black market, where people grow and sell the plant illegally, will emerge.

You are aware that it can grow out of the ground, right?  Anyone can do it as long (granted, there are skills involved).  As they don't try to outlaw "production" like backyard stills and stuff the corporations can't hold a monopoly on it.

I think it was Ohio that voted down that "Let's make it legal, but only if 8 companies can control the entire supply chain" law a year or two ago.  I agree that corporations WANT to control it all, but I don't see it as certainty for the future.

I'd imagine even if they get their way, illegally distributing weed would be like being caught distributing moonshine.  The penalties would have to be less detrimental than they are now.

I just wish that we could get the feds to deregulate/declassify pot. I have at least two separate issues that pot would be a wonderful treatment for, but i don't feel like violating a number of state and federal laws in order to treat myself.

As soon as it's legal, i stop drinking.  Most of your "alcohol" points aren't directly related to me but most are valid points.  Of course, i'll want to get my hands on seed.  Quite interested in craft weed growing on a limited scale.

It would be nice to legalize it so businesses who are obligated to perform certain actions when _illegal_ drugs are found in a person's system can stop doing so.  It happens rarely, but it really sucks to have to fire people for having smoked marijuana 3 days before a random test, who are otherwise amazing employees.

Absolutely.   I know several people who fit that category.   This is not to say there are not people for whom the ailments were quite real, and the prescription route an appropriate one to take.    I think if I were to find myself trying to make up an excuse to ask for a script, I would realize that I was about to commit fraud, and would just do without.

I think it's the height of irony that autocorrect is the main reason for jacked-up spelling errors online. The ironing is delicious.
