Why do you think I need a self-driving car?

That sounds nice and all, but.... What is the frequency Kenneth?!

Really there are scant details about this other than the potential applications which is the usual sales pitch.

Going through it GHz imaging actually has huge potential but they are entirely misrepresenting what it can actually do. Perfect for Pentagon stooges.

The article itself is clear to the point and honest. I am just concerned how they might try to sell this. It hasn't happened yet. I'm a loose drunk commentator and forgive me.

Twenty three and me?  No, Thirdlove?  Yes.

Although, if you could combine that into a bra shipping app that shipped bras throughout their lifetime, it might be great.

Maybe add in mTailor or something for precise fitting and customization.

Now, the trick is to sell bras in the middle east.  Iran might be a current opportunity.

And you wonder why we think everyone at MIT is socially broken...

I bought a smart phone to take pictures of my grandson.  The telephone part is really annoying.  People try to call me on it, like, all the time.

Nonrepeating Rotating Binary: But can it tell if they're real at that distance?

No, but thermal imaging can. Had a fireman tell me this right after they had started getting them.

Something bugging me in re: net neutrality and self driving.

I figure to do this efficiently the vehicles need to talk to each other. Isn't the changes potentially problematic to that? Would want something designated for that I suppose.

Oh, bewbs are cool also.

The article didn't mention cup size (that I saw), just that the measurement system was accurate to 1 cm at a distance of 500 meters...

Farkers, on the other hand, can only relate to measurement techniques in terms of cup size resolution detection... go ahead, ask anyone how many cups in a gallon.

Not sure how fast their car is, but a billion measurements a second seems like a tad bit of overkill.

At 60 mph, a car travels 88 feet per second.  WTF is going to happen between measurement 447,839,998 and 447,839,999 in any given second?

Indeed. Once per second is probably enough given the response time of the hydraulics on the vehicle, if you have a good algorithm to interpolate the data points. More measurements will increase the accuracy of your data though, through supersampling.

But TFA doesn't seem to say they're actually making a billion measurements a second, just that they're using gigahertz strobes to make the measurements.

The higher frequency pulse is what allows for higher resolution imaging.  It's not how many times the car is sampling a completed picture of the landscape.

Mukster: Why do you think I need a self-driving car?

*You* might not, it is possibly you are a good driver, but think of all the dumb motherfarkers you share the road with. The asshole whose schedule is WAY MORE IMPORTANT than your life, the guy whose left turn signal has been on since Nixon was in office, there is the person applying makeup, cooking a three course lunch, learning Spanish AND reading the paper... Sometimes they are different people.

Anyway, most people are too stupid/slow/ignorant/angry to be trusted with a ton of glass and steel.

I would love the idea of a self-driving car if they would just raise the standards for manual drivers' licenses and allow those of us who have the required abilities to keep driving.
