No worries, looks like the Democrats are looking to run a Clinton acolyte who literally inherited Clinton's Senate seat.

Then turned on Bill when politically convenient.

At which point Trump will not run for re-election and Ivanka will, in his place. All the Trump, now polished and beautiful with four years of White House experience.  #MAGA

Corey Booker checks all the boxes, but it's that one thing which will keep him from being elected.

"This isn't just about Senator Franken. Other lawmakers have also been accused of harassment. We need a system to deal with that messy reality, and the current one of investigating those complaints is opaque, takes too long and has not worked to protect vulnerable women and men from harassment. And the current alternative - off with the head of the accused, regardless of the accusation - is too quick, too easily subject to political manipulation and too vulnerable to the passions of the moment."

Yup. The reaction by Democratic supporters is lining up eerily similar to the primary. Yaay eternal Democratic strife.

Trusting Gillibrand will always be a mistake.

Why do you believe you are owed backing? Maybe you should go out there and convince people to vote for you. You know, like you demand from everyone else.

The state parties have been sandbagging progressive candidates for years. One of their favorites is to let one of their preferred candidates have access to VAN while setting exceedingly high bars for anybody else to have access (like a sufficient list of rich donors) during a primary. Or if somebody that might make the donors sad starts gaining traction, they'll find an alternate and throw the weight of DCCC funding behind them to bury the other with advertising, etc that they can't possibly fight.

Knock that shiat off and we'll talk.

So how would you describe your position on voting for Gillibrand?

2018-01-01 03:56:50 PM
The important part of this story is not GIllibrand's voting record. It is the voting record of all the other Dems. There is a media narrative about President Trump and the GOP in general that makes them look like intolerable, impeachable, and treacherous. There is also a media narrative that the Dems are not compromising with them, are not going to cooperate with the GOP, and that they are building a consensus and a strategy for resistance. The Dems are considering impeachment, and doing everything in their minority power to push back against the GOP, by demonstrating what it means to be trustworthy, care for the future; and despite the potential loss of important legislators like Franken, to show that they believe that when a leader is impeachable they must be impeached.

And here is a graph that completely undermines those distinctions. Utterly. Just farking blows them to smithereens. Gillibrand does not even show a voting record that follows those media narratives. There is no indication that the Dems have any sort of consensus except that the GOP is agreeable, except when there is a sound bite at stake. Gillibrand is only different in that she is accumulating the most soundbites.

Since the Dems are very much in the minority, they could vote against the GOP and actually do what the media narrative (from both sides) claims they are doing, with no loss even to their GOP-aligned goals. So when GIllibrand Speaks first on  topic, like Franken, or whatnot, it has to be with some co-ordination with the PR offices of her fellow Dems. The Dems could all have the exact same record as Gillibrand and have the same legislative results.

So when they don't vote as Gillibrand votes, they must be actually committed to aligning themselves with those pieces of legislation. Gillibrand, on the other hand, can;t make a legislative difference. So she might look different, but her standing out from her party can;t reveal anything about her character or her plans. The Dems agree with Trump far more often and on much deeper commitment to Trump and Ryan's visions of the future than their media, and Gilibrand's reputation, are trying to say.

What the spectacular farking fark is this narrative turning out to be?  hat is the point of voting for an least-compromising Gillibrand when she would be leading the maximally-compromising Dems?

2018-01-01 03:57:04 PM
Al Franken is a shoo-in. All he has to do is an interview with Billy Bush

2018-01-01 03:59:05 PM
Let's all just start telling her not to bother now, shall we?  She's been "progressive" for about 15 minutes after having been a blue dog.  The Franken incident proves that she knows how to boost herself while benefiting absolutely no one else.  Don't make us wait until 2020 to reject this nonsense

Or you know, you could actually look at what's being voted for, and note that a lot of it is things like temporary budget measures to keep the government afloat.

But by all means, keep proving why progressives are just as bad as trump.

In Virginia, an avowed socialist managed to unseat the GOP minority whip, even though the GOP outspent him two-to-one and he didn't have strong support from the VA Democratic Party after criticizing their reliance on corporate cash.

Jesus. Farking. Christ.

I have to assume all the folks tearing into Democrats in this thread are Russian bots or GOP psy-ops folks trying to sew discord ahead of the 2018 elections, because otherwise I'd have to assume an extremely insulting level of stupidity to folks sincerely getting worked up over a potential candidate who isn't going to even announce their run for another two years and even then will likely face a competitive field, and are happy to tear the left down from the inside over idle speculation rather than deal with the very real issues facing the nation right now due in no small part because of this exact infighting.

oh good, the puritans are here to label anyone not 100% in line with them "Bernie bros."
It's a good thing they're willing to overlook that this candidate did the GOP a huge favor by being a leading force in benching the one person who was fighting Net Neutrality and riding Jeff Sessions HARD for his phony ass testimony.

Gillibrand spearheaded the effort to ratfark Senator Franken out of his seat. With friends like Gillibrand, who needs conservatives?

The only thing I see in Gillibrand is "Generic Democrat" who has no problem trying to make the (D) stand for Donner Party. That'd be true if Al Franken ever sexually assaulted anybody. But we'll never find out because Gillibrand would rather offer him up for a sacrifice rather than allow the system to do its job.

Gotta offer up Ned Stark to King Joffrey so you can make him feel really bad to abdicate (which of course will never happen), I guess.

Sort of feel the same way, but at the same time it's important to cross off names on the list that will end up being obviously unpopular, and stating reasons why. That way we won't have to wait until the primaries to start protesting them.

Gillibrand is out for me. She can't be trusted. Find someone else.

As we've seen with Shirley Sherrod and ACORN, the DNC gets so scared of losing the moral ground that they'll shoot first and ask questions later.
