Welcome back Kotter.

Dear God, why? I'm not a Bucs fan, but that guy is just terrible. There's no way the Bucs should be that bad.

Gruden has a cute smile

Why the hell would Gruden leave his current gig?  He's making $6.5 million a year to analyze football and talk about it on TV.  He's maybe working, what, 40 hours per week?  Compared to the average successful coach working 100+/week?

Seriously it is a much less stressful gig for good money. Again I love that smile on his face at the beginning of Monday Night Football when Dobby sets up the talking points of the game.

How about just shut up, John Gruden. I'd rather listen to Courtney Love scratch her AIDS-infected heroin needles across a blackboard for three hours.

Sorry I didn't mean for that to come across as a taunt or confrontational.  I'm just a little bit drunk and commenting off topic. I always enjoy your posts. It's just fascinating at this time of year when rivals become bedfellows. Please pardon my thread jack.

According to ESPN, looks like Gruden may be going back to the Raiders and getting part ownership of the team

CBS sports says so too. His ESPN gig and Corona commercials have to be way less stressful than coaching.

If Gruden is smart he will never coach again.  There is now way he can live up to the hype.  It would be all down hill.

He makes $6.5 million saying "I love this guy" for literally every player of every team.  I wish he would go back to coaching, because then I only have to watch his lips move, not heard his annoying-as-hell voice.

gotta give it to Gruden and his PR folks - they outdid themselves this year keeping his name out there. an ownership stake with the Raiders? right. for a coach that's been out of the league for nine seasons and was barely above .500 during his run in Tampa Bay? yes - he did win a Super Bowl in his first season with the Buccaneers (in no small part to the defense Tony Dungy built), then followed it up with three out of four losing seasons, including a year when he went 4-12. and that Super Bowl win? yeah - that was the last time Gruden won a playoff game.

Would an NFL team try to hire Gruden? sure - crazier things have happened, but why would he do it? he could leave the booth, go back to 100+ hour work weeks, be one torn ACL away from disaster, and get shown the door when the next new hot coordinator comes along and be left with nothing. his folks are spreading these rumors so that sweet ESPN money keeps coming in while the network is in cost cutting mode and it raises his profile a bit to land a few more beer and Hooters commercials. give it a week or so and he'll announce that he thought it over but is going to return to MNF again next season. and next year it will all happen again.

/of course I've been wrong before

Only reason they kept him.

I think that depends on how today's game goes. Mike smith better be gone tomorrow morning though.

Going to be at the stadium by 3 to use up the season tix. League's worst run defense against the best two RB combo. Bucs are getting stomped.

Go Bucs

Saints, Panthers, and Falcons fans are thrilled to hear this.

Winston's stats may have improved, but he appears to have become even more of a head case.

I'd love to see Gruden come back and get an ownership stake... if for other reason than how hilariously awkward firing him will be when he fails to live up to all of the hype. Fire him one week, have to work with him at the owners meetings the next... Good times indeed.
