Genetically engineered humans were born in 2004?  Sure, you could grow them in a vat somewhat faster, but that tech is even further away.
/I wouldn't be surprised if a few clones were born in 2004.

There will not be 1 year old horses in the Olympics.  They take many years of training that often start after an attempted racing career.  10-16 is the usual competing range.

Sure, they'll do great the first year, or two, or three. Then the tentacles will start to come out, the cancerous growth of brain tissue in the abdomens of these poor creatures, the unpredictable effects of the alligator DNA carelessly spliced in for greater tendon strength...at least it will be entertaining, if not for the horses. And the humans.
