Straight to Hell is one of those movies I grabbed on a deep dive during my video store employee days. The only part I remember well is

"I thought you loved me?"

"I don't know what love is" *BRRRRAP*

Oh sure, but when I use 3 words from an article's title, my submission gets rejected.

unfarkingbelievable: Isn't Courtney Love a murderer?

Best explanation I ever saw was, "If you'd married that, you'd kill yourself, too."

I was a freshman in high school in 1977, and I saw this performance when it aired live.  Check out how pissed off he looks here.   I've been a fan ever since.

Listen to Imperial Bedroom if you want to learn how to write smart lyrics, and if you want to learn how to do the most you can with a limited voice.

Yeah, I remember that.  IIRC, he was a last-minute replacement for the Sex Pistols, who were supposed to perform.  He still wasn't very well known, and when he stopped the song, apparently all the producers went apesh*t because they didn't know what he might do.

Yeah, I saw that, and I was mesmerized. My brother was baffled. We get along well be we have completely different tastes in entertainment.

I bought the album the next day. I still listen to it a few times a year.

He was. The Sex Pistols had to cancel because of unresolved issues getting visas to enter the US owing to prior drug convictions. Malcolm McLaren deliberately allowed it to happen as he thought they would get more publicity being denied entry than they would performing on the show.

That's why the drummer's T-shirt says 'Thanks Malc'.

Yes, you can see the shirt there. Elvis Costello infuriated Lorne Michaels by changing songs there. From what I've heard, Michaels utterly hates anyone going off script on the show. Costello was banned from SNL for a decade because of that.

And he married Diana Krall, too. It's honestly annoying how cool he is.

True, but he was not SNL's first choice as a replacement act.  SNL asked the Ramones to play, but they refused when they found out they were to be the replacements for the Sex Pistols.  Their attitude was, "We're not a 'replacement' act."   BTW, here is another EC performance I saw on TV when it first aired.

Actually, yeah, she was pretty decent as a loudmouth brat.  That doesn't sound like much of a compliment,  but it would be hard to get it right.  I think most actresses would be too concerned about keeping their composure or some damned thing.  She pulled it off.

Elvis's most recent tour was a celebration of that album's 35th (?) anniversary. Saw them in Cooperstown, NY, and they were fantastic. Instead of one those "play the album in its entirety" stunts, they just did the show as if it were a new release: about 2/3 of the songs from I. B., along with hits from the rest of his career, before and after.

The opening act was Levon Helms's daughter, a perfect choice for upstate New York.
