I ate ants, grasshoppers, and worms in survival school, I wouldn't have an issue having them in my diet.

It's not as bad as you think. Most bugs with an exoskeleton, when they're baked, all of their insides evaporate leaving behind only the crunchy exterior. They don't have a flavor on their own, so they take the flavor of whatever you bake them with or dust on them. In Mexico, they put some lime juice and chili powder on crickets for a pre-Hispanic favorite "chapulines". It's delicious! It's just mind over matter.

Raw grasshoppers taste like peanut butter, and like almonds when roasted plain.  Ants taste like lemon drops when eaten raw.

Just mulch them into a flour-type material as a food additive/replacement and that could work.

/Yeah, I know this kinda exists.

Sure, I have in other countries, crunchy!

In order to save the world? Only if they were delicious.
In order to save myself? Only if they were available.

Meh, you're already eating plenty of bugs thanks to thresholds of acceptable food contamination.

Did they get the memo that raising insects at a scale is not less impactful than traditional livestock?  Because it doesn't sound like it. Unless you're foraging your own bugs, it is every bit as resource intense as a farking feed lot.

Or you could just consume legumes.

Everyone should have 2 Big Macs, 2 fillet of fish and a chocolate malted daily. This is the main reason the US is cutting funding to the UN.

If we need more food then stop wasting all of that corn on alcohol for cars. That's a lose/lose situation there. Corn prices go up, people go hungry, fuel expenses go up and fuel economy goes down.

This.

I've done the whole "It's a local delicacy" thing and eaten crap that I wouldn't feed my dogs, just as a courtesy. I'm not likely to go out and get a bag of grasshoppers for my stir-fry.

/ process it down to the point I can't tell it's a bag of grasshoppers, make it palatable and I'll give it a try

Can't argue with a thoroughly cited and documented argument like that!

I don't know that I could willingly eat bugs as a part of a regular diet. Now if I were lost/stranded in the wilderness I probably would just to stay alive. Eating bugs is not something I could consider a yummy option.

My issue is not the flavors, it's the spindly bits. The tickles and tiny pokes of antennea and legs is what gives me the wiggins.

The crustacean argument is flawed. Sure, we have no trouble eating them, but what we don't do as a rule is eat them whole. We leave shells, heads, antennae, as well as legs and claws for the small ones, we clear off the poop chutes.

I ate at Waffle House once.

No

Worked with a guy who brought in a bag of some sort of chili crickets who made a joke of it, asking people if they wanted one... long story short, nobody was biting so I took the bait. Pretty tasty, I asked for a few more

2017-12-28 01:49:25 PM
Sorry, I could not eat bugs willingly.  If I am ever in the position where I have to, please don't tell me it's bugs.  Just say it's something foreign.  Otherwise I might projectile vomit on you.

Wrap them in bacon or dip them in chocolate and ill consider it.

No. Besides, all these ridiculous empty gestures won't stop the sun from becoming a red giant in a few billion years and consuming the inner planets anyway, and I'm sure the earth will still be here and doing just fine up until that very moment.

Why?! To save the Earth? To save 'us', is more like it. Earth is waiting for us to die out and try again with a new species.

I would not eat them in a box.
I would not eat them with a fox.

I'd try crickets or ants, appropriately cooked and seasoned.  Grasshoppers/locusts would be too weird, I can't explain why, I think it's because I spent so much time capturing them and studying them when I was a kid.

I've posted this before, but first. Living in Asia made it a normal thing, some I like better than others and I now bring back bamboo worms etc for my US students. Anyways;

On a trip to Cambodia some years I searched out vendors selling tarantualas and ended up eating some 10 or so of these. I also had atleast 2 buckets and a few other drinks. I ended up vomiting in my hotels bathroom and the roughly 80 undigested legs turned the toilet into a hellgate to nightmares.

On that note, I ate something new to me his Christmas. Lil Smokies wrapped in thin cut bacon, sprinkled in brown sugar and baked. Please make bugs taste like that.
