Over priced even for the location. And well the location sucks.

Archie Goodwin: A rather eclectic mix.

I could probably deal with the unfurnished/undecorated place.  Not too gaudy  as is.  But the rest of the decorating reeks of nouveau riche.  Barely.  It would have to strive to reach that level.  It's practically juvenile.

We live across the main road from the mansions that even my VP calls his "aspirational" houses.  Mom and I will cruise over this time of year to check out their Christmas lights and decorations.

You'd think they could afford to hire someone to save them from their own bad taste and lack of eye.  I wish I had taken pictures this year.  Stunningly ugly.

Curious about the guy that recently tried to break in (with the help of a locksmith) to become a squatter. Can a New Yorker please explain why that would be a thing?

I think most of it looks great, though I missed the red leather walls. I'd be tempted to add a complementary room in yellow leather. Or maybe alternating walls in one room.

I like my workout room better, though I don't have the pool and sauna (mislabeled in TFA as a steam room for some reason).

LeMay was a general, most notably leading bomber groups during WWII.

Lamé is the gaudy fabric.

What?  No car hole?  I suppose they call it a "garage" at this level.  Seriously, in NYC it seems like that would be an automatic sale if it had one.

Leather walls are great - saw some in a Victorian mansion we toured. The room felt very comfortable. Tempted to install some if I can get my hands on some affordable pieces.

If he could prove he'd been living there for 30 days, then the owner of the property would have to go through the legal process of eviction to get him out, and that could/would take months.

After 30 days, NYC's adverse possession laws give squatters the full rights of a tenant. A squatter would then demand (and probably get) a six-figure sum to leave because the house won't sell with the tenant in place.

A couch in the bathroom.  Why?  When you're soaking wet out of the tub, your first reaction is to lay down?    After a massive dump, you're so exhausted you need a nap?

Right idea, but it was only a hobby. I just know all of my best performances were from "Vocal Warmups" and remember those fondly.

Would you at least clean off the couch first?  I mean really how lazy can people get, the toilet is literally across the room from you.

My parents renovated their house, top to bottom over the course of about 3 years, 12 years ago. Spent a few hundred grand on the place. They hired a designer who planned the whole thing out.

I recall that on occasion my parents would want to do something too custom and the designer lady would have to remind them that while that thing may work well for them, they had to think about possible resale OR cost of redesign years later.

It was cool to see her give such opinionated pushback on my folks.

I would think that a "home invasion gone wrong" in a property like this would cost less than a settlement.

Built before cars were a thing. There would have been a stable building next door, but I suspect that has either been converted into another townhouse or demolished to make way for another townhouse.

The pink deformed bunny rabbit sculpture is the only bit of decoration or furniture pictured in the whole house that wouldn't be flung into a dumpster, were it my decision to make.

The decor was understated in terms of stuff you usually see in overpriced homes. Still a lot of tackiness, but I'd probably only sell off about half of it. Oh, who am I kidding? If I were to somehow come into possession of that place I'd spend a week in the thing before putting it right back on the market. $80M for a place to live is just stupid. It makes the Hollywood Hills look like Baltic Avenue.

Shag carpet is affordable. Makes the room very quiet.

Awesome post, I chuckled. Counterpoint, tub, fireplace, couch, wall-to-wall marble and marble walls this is clearly a fark palace. No?
