Wasn't Accuweather's CEO or founder tapped to run the NOAA? Or I am misremembering?

Whee,$300!

You should probably use it to hoard cat food, because the next step in tax "reform" is killing Social Security and Medicare.

A one-time bonus is just a publicity stunt.  Make it a raise and talk further.

2017-12-27 02:05:07 PM
More likely, they were already planning to give those bonuses, and are just crediting the tax bill to suck up to Republicans.

bighairyguy: A one-time bonus is just a publicity stunt.  Make it a raise and talk further.

Correct.

And if the "bonus" is anything less than 5% of your salary, then it really is just a "fark you" from management.

Yep. Just the first department to get the privatization treatment. I'm surprised Trump didn't tap Fred Smith as postmaster general.

No you are remembering correctly, and he wants NOAA out of the business of providing weather forecasts saying they provide "unfair" competition to people that sell them.   THAT"s why he thinks they'll make more money next year

Rick Santorum introduced legislation to this end back when he was in the Senate. Guess who contributed to his campaign.

They seem like InAccuWeather lately.

I'm happy for their employees, but a one off bonus still isn't going to have a lasting impact on the economy like giving everyone a significant raise would.  But then a company would have to put employees first instead of shareholders.

Also, now that Accuweather's CEO is in charge of NOAA, I can't wait to pay for my severe weather alerts.

FTFA Barry Myers, AccuWeather's chief executive officer, has been tapped by President Donald Trump to lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. His brother, Joel N. Myers, is the weather firm's chairman and president.

And there you go.

Does that mean he wants NOAA or NWS or whoever to just hand the raw (publicly funded) data they collect over to private companies?

Nah, that can't be it.

My company does performance sharing of 3% every year, as high as 5% one year. Also, they do competitive market analysis twice a year and give out of cycle raises. I got a 17% raise this year. But, I am dumb and live in Los Angeles so making less than 120k is not enough for a house when down payments are 100k and cash buyers are about.

Bonus from the tax act? Psh. When will NOAA replace the NWS's forecasting systems and models for AccuWeather?

Only on fark will you find the inhabitants shiatting on a company that's handing out bonuses to employees.

2017-12-27 07:01:07 PM
And the new tax bill will take up to 60% of their bonuses.

2017-12-27 09:43:18 PM
If they wanted money to get into the hands of middle class, they had their opportunity and they blew it. Now they are acting like a one off from this tax bill is something to j*rk off to.

Yeah, but there's only a 40% chance of it...

Aren't they shiatting on the circumstances surrounding the bonuses? You know, read between the lines and all that.
