Yup. They did a few weeks ago anyway.
2002-01-14 11:06:13 AM
Didn't we just leave there?
2002-01-14 11:06:40 AM
Vietnam 2
2002-01-14 11:07:19 AM
"Vietnam 2: Attack of the Clones"
2002-01-14 11:07:51 AM
I thought Afghanistan was our Vietnam 2?
2002-01-14 11:08:35 AM
As Denis Leary said, "As long as we're over there, might as well hit Vietman while we're there and surprise the shiat out of them"
2002-01-14 11:08:43 AM
Er...so according to the photo on the article, we're sending in the SWAT team or something...who the hell is Sky News anyways?
2002-01-14 11:08:47 AM
I hope they find some 90 year old Japanese soldier hiding in the jungle that thinks WWII is still going on

That would be cool
2002-01-14 11:08:57 AM
Monkeys in pyjamas, eh girls?

Welcome to the 'Nam, New Meat.

2002-01-14 11:09:24 AM
Could still be Fb, its not as if you have won yet only repeated what the Russians did, take over the cities and face a guerilla war.

But as the Philipines have jungles, and Apocalypse now was shot there, so its probably more accurate.
2002-01-14 11:09:39 AM
Next stop: Harmonia's house.
2002-01-14 11:09:50 AM
Yawn. Hasn't the world been desensitized to the "War on Terrorism" yet? Are there people out there whom still care?
2002-01-14 11:09:54 AM
I don't think we should really consider Sky News (whatever the heck it is anyway) as a reliable enough source to use the "News Flash" tag.
2002-01-14 11:10:31 AM

Yes. You are right. We are still going to get slaughtered in Afghanistan. Then we are going to get slaughtered in the Phillipines. Yawn. :: rolls eyes ::
2002-01-14 11:11:15 AM
"Missionary"? What kind of descriptive sub-header is that? Does this mean the Muslim guerrillas are too assume the "missionary" position in preparation for US insertion?
2002-01-14 11:11:31 AM
Hey Fb, I missed the thread you got Photoshopped in, you gor a link?

Damn, I just had a horn button for my car sent over from the Philippines... Glad I got it when I did.
2002-01-14 11:14:46 AM
Ahhhh....world hegemony at last.
2002-01-14 11:15:19 AM

2002-01-14 11:16:35 AM
Well, we already won one guerilla war in the Phillipines - very burtal one at that. This time things look a little better (at least some help from the locals this time instead of us killing large numbers of them).

Fb-: Every war since '80 was supposed to be our next Vietnam, at least to some in the peanut gallery...
2002-01-14 11:16:40 AM
Cheers Baloosh:

2002-01-14 11:16:47 AM
MattIdol1: Skynews is a British broadcasting network owned by Rupert Murdoch.
2002-01-14 11:18:28 AM
Well syber, there was Beruit (not a great success) Somalia (need I say more) Grenada, which I dont think you want to claim, and Serbia, which was won but from 30,000 feet.
2002-01-14 11:20:10 AM
Skwidd: I agree. If all they needed were advisors, they could send like 3-4 generals.
2002-01-14 11:20:45 AM
me thinks that the US Gov't doesn't want the US to know about this yet..
2002-01-14 11:20:47 AM
You know, if that is Fb we look pretty much alike.

Perhaps he is my long lost brother (apart from the ears)
2002-01-14 11:21:35 AM
You're welcome.

And at the bottom of that link you provide it states that the US is trying to avoid civilian casualties. That's like saying the people who live on the coastlines deserve flood insurance when their homes go floating by after a nasty rain storm.

Acceptable losses in the War on Terrorism. The entire country could be viewed as an acceptable loss to some, not so to others.
2002-01-14 11:22:19 AM
"which was won but from 30,000 feet"

so it doesn't really count. Oh, i get it. well, ask the average Serb on the street, i think they are pretty happy about the US/UN's obvious failure in Serbia.

So, when can we expect the art of war by Harmonia. I look forward to the chapter "A victory isn't a victory unless the winner suffers major casualties."
2002-01-14 11:23:10 AM
I think Fb- denounced that picture's authenticity somewhere in those comments. Harmonia, if you look like that dude in the picture, then that explains a GREAT deal.
2002-01-14 11:23:32 AM
The mention of special forces appears under the heading "Missionary". Thus it should be clear that these special forces are chaplains.
2002-01-14 11:24:06 AM
Ok lets ask the people of Serbia, the ones rebuilding the bridges. Its the biggest centre of anti-us feeling in Europe.

Sheesh you just make it 43% dont you, did CNN say the serbs loved you now or something?
2002-01-14 11:24:51 AM
Death to Abu Sayyef!
2002-01-14 11:25:03 AM
President William Taft (of the Fighting Tafts)once made the comment that Filipinos were like "my little brown brothers"

...now a comment like that probably warmed them right up
2002-01-14 11:26:25 AM

SkyNews is part of the Sky Network (which includes BskyB and JskyB). As someone said, it's run by Murdoch. I think this, in theory, makes it the British equivalent of Fox News. They've actually got a pretty good reputation in Britain, so don't discount them just because you haven't heard of them.
2002-01-14 11:27:02 AM
But older and wiser and with less beer Baloosh

But I do have the short blond hair.
2002-01-14 11:27:18 AM
Here's something though...we have 100 years experience trapsing around the Philippines. Think about that.
2002-01-14 11:27:34 AM
Then I guess this should be seen as Vietnam 4 or 5, if everyone wants to count Beruit, Somalia (both good examples of politicians thinking they are generals). Serbia/Kosovo shouldn't count, since it's not over yet (haven't pulled out), and it really should have been Europe's problem to begin with.
2002-01-14 11:27:51 AM
Beer ears?
2002-01-14 11:27:53 AM
I just read this:
"The picture was among three that came to symbolize the brutality of the war, said Marco Leepson, spokesman for the Washington-based Vietnam Veterans of America. The photo of a screaming girl running down a road after napalm had burned off her clothing and the picture of helicopters rescuing people from the roof of a Saigon building as the city fell are the others, he said."
Does anybody know what pictures he's talking about?

Why don't we just send John Jay Rambo?

Your country must be in a right state. You have to go to war every six months to try to congeal the masses. It's getting increasingly expensive. Interesting that it's kicked off when the recession started to feel, too.
2002-01-14 11:32:23 AM
During the Spanish-American War the Philippinos thought that the US was rescuing them from Spanish imperialism, not realizing that they would not be under American imperialism. When some protested, the US slaughtered at least 20000 people, some estimates 5 times as many.

Yeee-HAWWW! You go get 'em Duhbya. Looks like we missed way too many last time through!
2002-01-14 11:32:44 AM
Serbia under Milosevic- Not so good

Serbia post Milosevic - no more of those annoying purges and endless wars.

But, i can see your argument for letting the serbian people, and serbia's neighbors rot under M. and his croonies. Just so long as I have cheap oil and child slave labor.
2002-01-14 11:33:37 AM
Here you go K

2002-01-14 11:35:17 AM
Jph: "I think this, in theory, makes it the British equivalent of Fox News. They've actually got a pretty good reputation in Britain, so don't discount them just because you haven't heard of them."

If they're anything like Fox News, I have discounted them by default.
2002-01-14 11:37:03 AM
43% it was the Serbs themselves who had a revolution and kicked out milosovic.

Most Serbs would argue the war kept him in power for a year longer than otherwise.

You know the scenario, incompetent and corrupt leader getting approval through war, it happens round your way too I belive.
2002-01-14 11:38:05 AM
US doesn't do anything about Serbian despots- US BAD: the US cares more about it's own interest that those of the rest of the world. Bourgeouis Capitalist Scumbags.

US does something about serbian despots - US BAD: Serbs (and neighbors) have to rebuild their bridges so people can get to work. Oh, people can get to work without getting shot by snipers? Damn americans.
