He was and still is one of the funniest people to grace SNL. I get it was slap stick but he had a delivery that was perfect. The motivational speaker was his best imo.

/you're using those writing papers not foe writing but for rolling doobies
//you can get a good look at a butchers a$$ by sticking your head up there.

Shut up, Richard.

I was pretty sad when he died.  I used to love him. Had all of his movies, even the crappy ones. (I'm looking at you, Beverly Hills Ninja)

The good part is that I get to introduce him to my kids.  My youngest, a chubby little dude built like me, loves the "Fat guy in a little coat" gag.

He was good at what he did.  It was pretty much just a single character in everything and he had almost no range as a performer, but he was pretty funny nonetheless.

Sweet, thanks for sharing this. I also really appreciated Farley. I still love watching his films and SNL.

Also, thanks for this, Subby!

He was always full blast. either killing it or dying, but always full on.*

* Lacked subtlety if you want to be mean about it.

When Chris Farley went to Heaven, the first person to greet him was John Belushi.  Belushi said, "You could have learned something from my senseless death... BUUUUUUUUUT NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

I know this is always generational, but the late-80s SNL crew was sharp and funny, the show felt generally less smart and more poorly performed in his era and I sort of held it against him at the time.  And I love the best Farley-Sandler stuff as much as anyone, think Spade is underrated now.  But they were all pretty one-note after Hartman-Hooks-Carvey

My favorite movie line of all time is from Tommy Boy, after the title character's caught Richard enjoying the view.  After a steady stream of rips indicating he knows what his buddy was up to, he closes with a soft, gentle..."sinner."

Chris Farley didn't have great range as a performer.  He approached everything with his over the top style that worked in so many cases.  Probably the most memorable scene is the Chippendales skit on SNL.  I wouldn't call it great, but it is a strong example of what he brought to the table and why many found him funny:

Chris Farley & Patrick Swayze - Chippendales

And just for added feeling old and sad, it has been over 8 years since Patrick Swayze died.

Never understood the adulation, especially someplace like here where the best performers get the edgy FARKer "meh". But scream, shake your obese belly and budge your eyes and act like a moron? Genius apparently.

Just off the top of my head 10 performers much MUCH funnier than Farley on SNL.

Farley stayed in his lane.  He knew what worked and what his strengths were.  Just like Norm.  You can definitely say that he had less comic talent, but his comic talent was very concentrated into specific areas.  Also, Amy Poehler?

Everybody loves 2nd-hand stories... so i'll share one.... Knew this girl who lived in Hilton Head, SC, and said Farley would frequent a particular drinking establishment by himself, drink himself to oblivion, and put coke on the bar and snort it off.    Said it was heart-wrenching to watch.

/just googled his name and Hilton Head, and apparently he was attending a diet clinic there... so her story checks out.

The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.

: Right. I think we.. I think we got time for one more question. Uh.. remember when you were in The Beatles? And, um, you did that album Abbey Road, and at the very end of the song, it would.. the song goes, "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make"? You.. you remember that?

Paul McCartney: Yes.

Chris Farley: Uh.. is that true?

God, that kills me, every single time. That might be my favorite SNL exchange of all time.
