I'm sure that I ought to be able to come up with a witty statement about hindsight, but my brain has melted.

Christ, I didn't mind 20/20 at first, but I had no idea it was going to ruin the game so fast. Now we're getting farking 4 day tests for fark's sake. Surely you could have streamlined ODI's some instead of throwing everything under the bus.

What I would have like to see is ODIs cutting back to 30/30, essentially 2 sessions. 100 overs CAN be a long farking day, but 60 and you're done at tea time. And you'd still get something resembling bowling.

Ahh it's a cricket reference.  20-20 is a faster form of the game, with just one inning for each team.  Games usually last about three hours.  Dear god, how long is a regular game?

A test is 2 innings and lasts 5 days.  If it's not done in 5 days, it's officially called a draw.  Rules are put in place to speed up the game, including a batting team agreeing to end their half of the inning by "declaring", and penalizing a bowling (fielding) team in the bottom of the 2nd for stalling the batting team's momentum by awarding runs.

Taking Disney's business tendencies out of the picture, they are quite progressive in how they treat their employees, have to wonder how Fox News is going to fair. Granted they will probably let them run in their usual mode since money is money

20-20 involves about 120 balls bowled by each team (20 overs at 6 balls per over), which isn't too far off from the number of pitches in a baseball game, so they take about the same amount of time.

An ODI (one day international) is 50 overs, at 6 balls each makes 300 per team. The match runs about 8 hours

A test has two innings with theoretically unlimited overs, but the match has to be completed in five days of 8 hours each, minus lunch and tea breaks. .

Why ask the Mouse why they do anything? The Mouse does what it wants, when it wants. The Mouse cannot be argued with or bartered with. The Mouse controls Bartertown.*

*SquareEnix is actually more anal than Disney. SquareEnix refuses to allow game footage to be used for Video Games Live concerts. Disney actually allows copyrighted footage to roll for VGL during Kingdom Hearts symphony suites.

Sounds about right. They purchased a company in need of a conscience.

Cricket is why Murdoch was interested in selling (sort of), but not why Disney wanted to buy.

But buying Fox means owning a massive portfolio of movies and TV, so that's good.
It also bolsters ESPN because they got the regional networks, too, which are always very popular, locally, and so Disney can help ESPN stop losing so much of their influence that has been eroding for the past 10-15 years.

About an hour in front of the TV watching a bit of the pre game for a big tour like The Ashes and you'll be well on your way to understanding the game. Just ignore the way they write the score and the names of the fielding positions and the rest is easy. After a few matches stuff like leg on/off,square,point, leg bye, yorker, spin, gully etc will become clear.

I really hope Disney/Fox puts a lot of money and faith into The Orville. It could overtake Star Trek now that CBS/Paramount have f*cked it all up with the Kelvin timeline and the Discovery clusterf*ck/reboot.

A Disney-backed Orville movie series would be well-received in a few years, I suspect.

Not Wrong.
I watched a good portion of a Cricket World cup maybe 4 years ago (the last one perhaps?, in NZ) While I was living on a cruise ship. Sitting in the bar watching at least the first innings each night with some Brits or Aussies and I really did get a hang for watching the game. With 20/20 being about the length of other American televised sports I think it could really take off in this country. It has the pacing and "pitching duels" like baseball, but also surpasses baseball in a lot of the areas that people who don't like baseball hate. Just about every ball hit by the batter is always in play for scoring, the bowling is super cool to watch, and fielding is way more athletic.
