I've had "Stay Up Late" stuck in my head all day.

Also, I've seen him live and the man puts on a hell of a show. Might have to drag the kid to one more.

Anybody that has seen him knows it will be the same as it ever was.

Will this be The Talking Heads or just Byrne? Tina Weymouth is batshiat crazy but a total MF'er on bass.

I saw St Vincent a couple years back.  She's worth the ticket price alone.  And I bet Byrne has a great stage show.

/Can't name a solo song of his though.

Byrne, I don't think they are getting along still. Still it would be a pleasant surprise.

She and Franz shiattalk Byrne every chance they get. I think they even did a running commentary somewhere about the satire Final Transmission, in which they just shred Byrne, and that was just a year ago, so... yeah that reunion is never happening.

I am a performing bass player... I used to play in a Talking Heads cover band. Needless to say, Tina is one of my very favorite bass players. I think she is pretty well appreciated in bass player circles.

maybe he's doing "SMS" as a one-man show, playing everything at once.

East Coast? Using the term loosely. Two farking dates in PA? Really? Ugh.

What is this thing with people diminishing David Byrne by name-dropping other members of Talking Heads? "David Byrne would be a failure and a nobody without Tina Weymouth on bass!" Are y'all out of your goddamned minds?

David Byrne is everything great about the Talking Heads. The other members are fine musicians, but without Byrne they'd be a Baltimore wedding reception band. And nobody's mentioned Brian Eno? Jesus Christ, come on, if any one name is going to be dropped alongside Byrne's Talking Heads era, then it's Eno even more than the actual members of TH.

BalugaJoe: I hope he does songs from Rei Momo.

.....wow.  i was gonna say that.  TH as a band I like but i'm not thaaaaaaaaaaaat into them.  some great songs and some of it just doesn't move the needle for me.

Rei Momo is a very interesting record with some really, really great songs on it.  and it was, from memory, recorded while the THs still existed, technically, as I don't they 'officially' broke up until about 1992.  so it is an interesting document in terms of what he wanted to do vs what the other 3 were doing.

(and of course Chris and Tina were producing records by the Happy Mondays, whom I love, so it would seem they might have been content to just produce records vs make them).  who knows.

2017-12-13 11:20:25 AM
Holy cats, he's playing a show 15 minutes from here. I should go.

2017-12-13 11:23:46 AM
Meh. It will probably be just more songs about buildings and food.

You don't have to be "likeable" to enjoy the music. Yes, the guy is a pretentious asshole, but he's put out killer music throughout his career. I saw him with St. Vincent and it was one of the best concerts I've seen, and I've seen LOTS of bands through the years.

He has some weird stuff. Also he works with Brian Eno quite a bit, and if you know who Brian Eno is, well, enough said.

One of my fave weirdo songs by Byrne:

Window shoppin'
Finger poppin'
Hangin' in our fav'rite shopping mall
Looky looky
A little cutie
A little kitten she deserves a home

Tell you dudes when I get old enough
You bet that I am gonna try some stuff

Twisted sister
Don't 'cha miss her
There's a hundred more where she came from
Wiggle wiggle
Jiggle jiggle
Jesus, how the babes are almost grown!

Roy Moore's theme song?

/Alas, he'll be nowhere near me, even if I dared venture into a city.
//I learned with Tom Petty--if you say that you'd go see them, then go see them.

I pulled out Remain in Light a few months ago, and was shocked that it came out in 1980

I mean, I actually bought it in 1980, but I'd forgotten how far ahead they were. You can play that today and the average college kid is going to be confused by the complexity.

Dude is a monster guitarist.

Played with Zappa
Played with Bowie (Zappa never forgave Bowie for pilfering his guitarist. Called him "Captain Tom" until the day he died)
Played with Talking Heads (and was invited to replace Byrne at one point)
Played with King Crimson

I can't think of another musician who has that kind of resume.

Plus he doesn't sound like anyone else - his style is unique and unmistakable.

/sorry for the threadjack.
