I once patronized my social studies teacher, Mrs LaBlanc in 7th grade. She would collect our notebooks and when she returned mine, wrote a note...

"Dear Steklo,
Please do not patronize me."

I had to ask her what that meant.

Still don't know what it means.

By even having the word 'feminism', it highlights that there's a separation and inequality among genders.  There's no male equivalent for it.  (well, no valid equivalent.  Masculism is just a ridiculous term)

Our goal should be to eliminate that word by making it obsolete and unnecessary.

Speaking as a man, so take that for what is worth:

I think one of the big issues is that while there is a dictionary definition for feminism, there has never really been a real consensus between those in the feminist movement as to what feminism really means and stands for.

You have the traditional Gloria Steinem feminist and other, more recent reinterpretations of the term and the movement, like Beyonce plastering the word up in huge letters and (in my male opinion) co-opting the term to conflate sexualization with feminism. It seems to be an identity crisis that those opposed to the feminist movement have jumped onto in order to de-legitimize the whole thing.

Another spike for the word feminism in 2017 occurred in February, after Kellyanne Conway spoke at the Conservative Political Action Committee.
"It's difficult for me to call myself a feminist in the classic sense because it seems to be very anti-male and it certainly seems to be very pro-abortion
..."

Doesn't matter, WORD OF THE YEAR!

SirEattonHogg: Let me qualify this.  I don't mean be an a-hole.  It's a fine line with serious confidence and somewhat aloof but still showing interest, and crossing the line into jerk territory. The latter is just as much a turn-off as being obsequious.

I will however say, I've been more lucky with being sort of a jerk than ever acting fawning over someone.  Putting someone on a pedestal never works.   Females sense it as weakness.

That's why you need to be obsequious, purple and clairvoyant.

Most women want someone who appears to be higher status than they are. That's why being a jerk and negging can work for a while....until your true colors are shown.

I thought that feminism was basically about women having the right and respect to do whatever the hell they wanted without their gender getting in the way, and being treated like an equal.

Did I get that wrong?

But it does work.  The point is getting her interested in you initially because you seem interesting and confident.  It's really all a game in the early stage.

I've never understood this. Some women (most?) like being treated nicely. If they treat me badly, I get rid of them. Life is to short for dealing with assholes.

IHadMeAVision: Mens Rights Activists exist now. They have like two valid complaints and a millions whines.

They actually have a lot of valid complaints. But they have billions of whines. And they rip all the moral force out of their valid complaints by using those complaints as a thin veneer for extreme misogyny.

The fact is, there are a lot of important men's issues that aren't being addressed today. But the MRAs don't help their cause one iota.
