I don't understand anything that is written here or in that article except "midseason finale" and that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

It just means AMC is going to hold off showing new episodes for a few weeks, so viewers who are traveling for the holidays don't miss anything.

Frankly, I find it hard to be shocked about killing of a character that really hasn't been a part of the last two seasons or so, due to either scheduling conflicts with the actors schooling or the writers not being able to find anything for the character to do.

I know the Walking Dead writers are incompetent (every time I see Scott Gimple I cringe, he thinks everything is super serious and he desperately wants to out-Game of Thrones) and I'm not a huge fan of Robert Kirkman's endless wheel-spinning either, but at least Kirkman vaguely understands the idea of a character arc.

Lil Coral was the only character that's actually gone psychologically from Point A to Point Z in a relatively coherent fashion. No wonder they had to kill him off.

It's pretty common in series. Most shows take breaks over the holidays, to make sure audiences catch the newest episodes. They started calling it the midseason finale a few years ago, but it isn't a new thing.

I've been holding off watching this season, waiting to hear that Negan died before I started watching it again.  And now they're killing Carl?  I'm farking done with this show.  It was my all time favorite show before Negan's arrival and they killed Glenn.  I think someone in charge wants the show to end or be cancelled.  They're putting a lot of effort into tanking it.

I have to agree with you on that, it's almost like they are trying to make the writing as bad as possible. I have been extremely disappointed in this season; I can't tell if I am finally recognizing the BS that turned others off the show, or if there has been a legitimate dip in quality.

They started calling it a midseason finale, and making big, cliff-hanger-type episodes when they realized how badly viewership rates dropped when they randomly stopped airing new episodes fior a month or more at the end of the year.

Makes sense. Everything's about the Almighty Ad Dollar. I find it less annoying than the shows that air September to December, then May to July.

Call me "that guy", but we cut the cord 7 years ago.  I watch streaming and downloaded things any more.  Even if a series is currently playing on the networks, I DL each episode and watch in binge mode after it airs.

Harry Wagstaff: Worst. Episode. Ever.

You didn't enjoy the unbelievably useless and repetitive Sergio-Leone-style closeups?

Just because they're a clear sign of a director that doesn't comprehend how and why shots are chosen doesn't mean it was a bad episode!

Carl is supposed to be Rick's sole remaining emotional/mental anchor. Just seems kinda pointless. Oh well.

2017-12-11 09:56:09 AM
I've been watching the show since it started.  I've defended it for quite awhile - I even liked season 2 on the farm.

But last night's episode was Ivan Drago.  It broke me.

Not because of Carl.  By the time the Carl reveal happened, I didn't care any more.  The writing has been so bad that I can no longer overlook the inconsistencies and flaws in the plot.

In The Avengers, during the big fight at the end, I didn't care that The Hulk showed up in places with no explanation or logical way he could have gotten there, because I was being entertained.  TWD has not been entertaining me enough for me to not be bothered when the Saviors pull the same trick.  Between that and Negan's plot armor, I just don't see the point in continuing to watch.

I know plenty of people will still watch - the ratings continue to be quite high - and I don't begrudge them that, I won't bemoan it.  But I'm out.

Mrs. Caelistis absolutely loves this show and I bailed after the second season. I do not get the allure. The characters have made so, so many idiotic, tactically unsound decisions that they should have been dead several times over. All of them.

I can't speak for everybody, but I fell away a long time ago mainly due to reaching "peak zombie" right around the time Brad Pitt took a shiat on the World War Z property. That was our last chance for a smart zombie movie and it turned into the same old jump scare zombies-running like cheetahs on PCP shiat.

The thing that bugged me the most was spending EIGHT WEEKS telling a story about a single farking day, and at the end of it we've not advanced the story at all. Not really. It's the same position it was at the end of last season: Negan's on top, Rick's group is in a position to resist.

Oh, but they did get rid of the tiger, so they can save on the budget.

And what was the point of the last two weeks with the trash romulans if they were just going to run away this week? I feel like that was a lot of MY time wasted.

I don't get the whole binge watching thing.  I get burned out and end up dicking around on my phone and just listening to the audio when I binge.  Much rather watch a show here and there makes it not feel like a chore.

I'm in conflict with myself over my need to watch things to completion vs how bad this show has gotten.  I think it's karma for telling people who hated the show 4 seasons ago to just stop watching.
