The waiter's plight went viral when a friend shared his photo of the receipt on which the customers wrote "our gay waiter made me wanna throw up my food! Ruined my experience tongt. Will not be back!"

Though the initial post was meant to help the waiter find a new job in the area after his experience, social media backlash ensued, with the post of the receipt garnering over 2,000 shares on Facebook. On Tuesday, Hickory Tavern not only confirmed that they'd fired the waiter, but that they'd offered him his job back.

That's ok. They never asked for clean food. The joke is on them.

I've always wondered... the people who leave these notes, do you think that they find out what happened after?  Like they're scrolling through their facebook page and then see their hand writing, on a receipt that they left... think they feel embarrassed or anything?  I would be mortified.

I'm torn about what to do.  Might be fun to turn the jerk owner's establishment into a gay bar.  Write notes on the receipts, "that straight waiter made me sick!  And honey do something about that monobrow."

How many of these nasty tip notes later turn out to be made up ?

We've had a few stories where the waiter didn't redact any information and The Internet tracked the people down.

Well, the short of it is:
Everyone involved were assholes.  The customer, the waiter/waitress, the internet.  All of them.

I'm not the brightest bulb in the package, nor the sharpest crayon in the box but I'm a bit confused.  Since how and why is a waiters sexual orientation even necessary to know when most people go into restaurants to consume food?  I mean, to my way of thinking?  This is a topic that should never have been broached or discussed!

I had a bad restaurant experience last night. The waiter was trying so hard to be "professional" but clearly had no idea what he was doing.

All he did was ask for a tossed salad.

So... the only way I know to figure if a person is gay or straight is to try to have sex with them; or at least ask them if they're interested. Were the diners asking for a threesome, got rejected, and got angry?

What happens in the restaurant stays in the restaurant.

This is not unreasonable from the employer's point of food.

Outing redneck homophobes and other disturbed shiats is just the same as outing how the food is prepared, what it costs the restaurant, and how much they are screwing the patrons or the staff. It is the same as reporting them all to the Department of Immigration and Naturalization or to the FDA, the CIA, the Department of Agriculture or directly to Emperor Putin.

I have no sympathy for waiters. They are lazy, evil people and I assume some of them are good people.

If I found a waiter I liked I would follow him around like the Great Dead fanbase.

I did find one once. He was French. He was Gay. He was discrete and efficient and could even pour a cup of coffee properly, without slopping coffee everywhere. I don't know where he went though. That's the rub, the fly in the soup to my theoretical loyalty to good waiters.

I can tell you what waiters do to customers who are jerks if you like.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha. I hope you have a good imagination because if you are going to try figuring it out for yourself you will need a wicked imagination.

Because waiters are wicked, wicked people and I am willing to trot that back in this same sentence by saying that some of them are probably good people.

The only thing more hateful than service industry workers is their employers and the clientele. Which is pretty much all of us, really.

1. He did not redact the credit card details (Mastercard and last 4 digits)
2. He did not redact the name of the restaurant.

He made a social media post that opened his employer up to negative publicity no matter how they chose to respond.  I agree with their decision to fire him, though I also agree with their decision to hire him back and use it as a teaching experience to all other employees that any further mention of the company or its patrons in any negative light will result in immediate termination.

Well, when I ask the bartender to stir my drink with his dick, I want to know where it's been.

Point of food is a very important thing to a restaurant owner.

I fully expect the usual 'right to work' crowd to show a modicum of consistency, and completely support the restaurant's decision to fire this guy.

Obviously it is not "necessary to know" a person's sexual orientation in a customer-server relationship.
But, sometimes a person is so FABULOUS that it is easily determined, or at least generally assumed..
And sometimes, that's the way the way the person wants it.

But whatever the situation, writing a note on a receipt serves no purpose.

I'd fire him too. He just called all this customers "bigoted iceholes". Why should he be allowed to keep his job?

kab: I fully expect the usual 'right to work' crowd to show a modicum of consistency, and completely support the restaurant's decision to fire this guy.

It's not about that.  He should not have mentioned his employer or allowed the credit card details to be seen.  He probably should have just retyped the text instead of taking a picture at all.

By dragging the restaurant into it, they faced backlash from LGBT if they made no comment, and they faced backlash from anti-LGBT if they did.  He put them in a bad position, and that is a firing offense.  I don't have a Facebook account, and I tell my friends not to post pictures of me or tag me by name in any photos because I have no patience for that shiat.  They all respect my wishes just like an employee should of their employer.

Well, they've already reversed that decision, so it's kind of a moot point.

More likely the waiter was so over the top that his relatively unworldly customer finally came to realize that not only do gay people actually exist, but there one was, standing right before him, dilated anus and all.

2017-12-07 08:29:43 PM
I don't understand this.  Any restaurant I've been to that I've been served by a gay waiter was the best service I ever received.  At one place, we always requested to be sat in his section.  Service was prompt, he didn't fark anything up, checked back with us, noticed when our drinks were empty.  It made the entire experience so much better.  We always left him at least 25%.

We went in one time and he wasn't working.  We got stuck with an apathetic bimbo who botched everything and then disappeared.  It was such a let down after the stellar service we got used to.  If there was a restaurant called 'Gay Waiters Only', I'd be a regular there.  Good service can make even mediocre food a great dining experience.

Anyone remember the movie 'Bachelor Party' with Tom Hanks? There was a scene in it where a male dancer, Nick the Dick, put his man meat in a hot dog bun and served it to an old lady?
Maybe this waiter did that.

What does this have to do with prohibiting employees from forcing employees to join unions they don't want to?

Am I like a lot of folk here?  When I go to a restaurant I don't really care about the sexual orientations of the wait staff.  Never enough to write a note about it.  I simply do not care.  All I care about is quality service while I enjoy good food.  That really shouldn't be that high of a standard for anyone that gives a damn to achieve from either wait staff or customer.  I know it is at times though.

I think you're on to something.
The handwriting looked like a female's to me. I"ll bet that the hubby was all worked up for his weekly dose of beer, ball, titties and wings, then Miss Thing sashays up to the table.
Now he's gonna pout til next Saturday night. That pisses off his old lady 'cause she's the one who has to put up with him.  Plus, he's not gonna roll over on top of her later like he usually does when the waitress gets him all hot and bothered.
He had to listen to  a lisp. He could barely eat, much less get it up.

/I'm guessing the woman who wrote that would be tickled pink by a big dick in a bun.
