(Washington Post)   Taylor Swift doesn't deserve to be on the Time Person of the Year cover because she doesn't spend most of her day shiat talking Trump on the Politics tab   ( washingtonpost.com) divider line

Taylor Swift?

Please, God, just make it go away.

You can't prove that.

She doesn't have to go away, she can stop singing, not her fan base, but she doesn't have to go away.

Can we repeal the law that her music has to be played 5 times an hour in public spaces? I would consider that assault.

Peter von Nostrand: Conservative America 2017: where denouncing Nazis is considered whining and shiat talking.

It is when you call everyone who is right of Nancy Pelosi a "nazi."    I've been called a nazi on Fark at least 50 times... by people who have no idea what they are talking about.  You can't hide behind righteousness when you are the one blurring the lines about what that word even means.  (Not YOU specifically, just people in general who go around calling people nazis all day with no context or justification and then say "I'm just against nazis".)

Um... yeah, I'm going with no on this one.

It is true that white supremacists have attempted to co-opt Swift with things like their "Aryan goddess" comments, and her refusal to denounce and disown them over that is indeed both conspicuous and extremely disturbing. By the standards typically used to judge Nazis, that makes her one of them: when you knowingly and willingly allow yourself to become a part of their machine, you become indistinguishable from them.

But does that mean she doesn't deserve a spot on Time's cover? Not by the standards that have been used to judge the award basically since its inception. Just last year they gave it to Trump himself, after all. Is it any wonder that they'd have someone not so different among the group on the cover this year?

She deserves the cover more than Ashley Judd.  Taylor was sexually assaulted, reported it, and then went to court to make sure the guy didn't get away with it.  Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan (listed in the article as more deserving) decided their careers, and in McGowan's case money, were more important than stopping Harvey Weinstein.  Years later when they pile on after the fact, they're considered heroes?  Tell that to Weinstein's victims after them.

You know, it's funny; no one to the left of Orrin Hatch would call me a liberal or even a moderate, and this has gotten me into no end of tangles on the Politics tab. But somehow, by some miracule, I just don't get called a Nazi. Like, ever. Not even in jest.

I wonder why that might be? How could we be so similar, yet you get called a Nazi and I don't? Frankly, I suspect it comes down to one critical, key difference between us: namely, that you are a Nazi, and I am not. Most people really are savvy enough to tell the difference.

Counterpoint: Taylor's assailant didn't have millions and an army of spies to keep her complicit.

She wasn't raped and was taking on a DJ from some shiatwater market that wasn't employing journalists and an intel operation in order to keep a lid on his crimes. She had all the power in the situation, there was never any threat to her career or reputation.

I was more upset that Megan Kelly was prominently featured in the article, as this is precisely the type of thing that she would dismiss out of hand if it hadn't happened to her personally.

I don't know enough about Becky's situation to have an opinion about her being on the cover.

All the people I mentioned were victims.  I didn't decide who was more victimized, I decided who was more heroic.  I went with the person who immediately faced her attacker and  stopped him cold rather than the two who left their attacker free to attack others for years, including the one who took a six-figure payout for her silence.

Hey scorpitron,

This guy is making Taylor to be less of a victim because her assailant wasn't as powerful as Harvey Weinstein.

Let him have it.

Actual Nazis and members of white supremacists and the Aryan nation support her and claim her as their own. This has nothing to do with you and the wrongs that you feel have been committed by random posters on here but actual Nazis and white supremacists.

Well I don't know about that. The real power trip came when he stuck his hand on her twat. He'd been warned by both her bodyguard and her assistant, and it's pretty clear from that photo that she didn't want to be anywhere near him.

"Power" isn't only being able to get revenge later. Powerless is being grabbed by a man and feeling like you can't get away. Do any of you guys ever have to live with that? I rarely have, except when I was young, because I"m a biatch now. But if some woman comes up to you and grabs your balls without permission, you are still a victim, even if you laugh it off, or get her arrested, or whatever.

If you don't feel victimized by stuff like that, then fine. But people touching you sexually when you don't want it is meant to victimize you. That's why they do it--to assert power over you.

Magazine cover celebrates women that spoke up against sexual assault, many part of a movement that is supposed to unite people that have been victimized and give them a voice, let them know they're not alone.

So, I guess it's time to pick them apart, divide them and say who is or isn't worthy?
