Oh portal tree
Oh portal tree
How multidimensional you are

You travel through both
Time and space
Taking jooo-ooy ev'rywhere

The Christians think
You're sacrilege

They simply don't remember
The tree was pagan first.

I remember one from 2008 or 2009.  A friend of a friend was renovating his house, so he hung a fake Xmas tree from where a ceiling fan was supposed to be.

There once was an arborist freak
Whose indoor tree grew too many a week
It burst through a rafter
And shortly thereafter
Santa ducked behind it to take a leak.

I can see where it'd be a good idea in a hotel lobby, for instance : you've got your Christmas decorations, but it doesn't take any floor space, plus it is safe from vandals.

Yeah, but did it get spin around and then I bang my head on it while having sex?

That's a really sad Christmas.  You're stuck in a hotel, with a Christmas tree that has to be hung upside down from the ceiling like a dead shark because you're staying in such a shiatty place that vandals will sneak in and destroy the tree -- and maybe you and your loved ones -- during the dark of night.

I mean, shiat.  I'll spend $20 more to stay at a Motel 6 where someone overdosed downstairs as long as the coroner is polite enough to wait until 8 or 9 am to get started.

This "trend" is several HUNDREDS of year old.
That is how they were originally done.

mr lawson: errr.

Came here to say this, very disappointed only one other person has brought it up so far.

But yes, Christmas trees were ORIGINALLY hung(hanged?) upside-down from ceilings. I know the catholics of the time claimed it was to represent the holy trinity, but I'm not sure of the pagan link.

The trees also had candles in them. Little fires, in upside-down dead drying trees, hanging from the ceilings of wooden homes.

I get the portal thing. But why would the tree be inverted? If it started out inverted on the ceiling, how does it get sucked up?

I guess what I'm saying is: Either pick one (portal | inverted), or do it right (upright & in-portal-transit) or else you should expect a lump of clean West Virginian coal in your stocking.

Given that a Festivus pole is unadorned, I'd venture to guess Frank would have a portal mounted sideways.

This is the same kind of "creativity" that goes into certain manifestations of "art": over-sized everyday objects, upside-down everyday objects, everyday objects seeming to be half-buried in the ground, etc. It's also the same kind of "creativity" that goes into reverse baby names. And if you can't tell from my use of quotes, what I mean is that it's a very simple-minded creativity.
